Chance Me OOS...Defer or Accept?

Female, white, New Jersey
Major: Contemporary European Studies

4.0 UW GPA, 4.48 W GPA
SAT I: 1550
SAT II: 790 (US History) and 740 (Literature)
AP Scores: Stats (5), Lang (5), US History (5), Gov (5), Calc AB Subscore (4), Calc BC (3)

Extracurriculars: Extremely strong (all leaderships, some of them requiring applications), but as this was my first application, the Activities Section on my Common App is a little unrefined. In the optional resume, I chose 3 of my most important activities and explained them in detail; they all relate to Contemporary European Studies. I really, really pushed that in my application, though not necessarily in my essays.

Essays: I think they’re good; one of them is a little cheesy, but I think that they show I’m an interesting person.

Awards: National and regional writing competitions

Honestly, I’m just super nervous. I didn’t realize how competitive UNC OOS was until a couple weeks ago (eek). Obviously, no one can give me a definite answer but I want to know if I’m more in the “defer” or “accept” range.

You have very strong credentials. Congrats on your achievements to date. OOS at UNC CH is pretty intense. It’s a reach for everyone so no one can give you any serious feedback. You certainly are a strong candidate.

You are certainly qualified- congrats on all of your accomplishments! It is impossible for anybody to say whether or not you will get in… You are also applying from a competitive area of the country. What I can say is that there are many amazing schools out there who would be happy to accept you… and in a few weeks you will know.

Good luck! You appear to be highly qualified… But that’s all anybody can say.

You are overthinking things way too much. My recommendation is to unplug from it all (including College Confidential) for a couple of weeks; the die is likely cast, so don’t beat yourself up over what you have no control over at this point.
