Chance me? OOS student

Hi! I know these chance things are unreliable and annoying, but I just want to know if I even have a shot of getting into U of M or if I should save the application fee money. Thanks so so much in advance! Here are my stats-

White female and I will need financial aid for sure.

ACT -32 composite (30 math, 33 science, 33 English, 32 reading) and I’m taking again Sep. 9 with writing.
GPA 3.52 uw/ 3.72 w (my HS is extremely competitive and gives out very little weight for AP classes. No rank also)

AP Courses so far and scores-
Biology (4), English Lang (5), US Gov (4) and senior year I am taking Comparative Gov and English Lit in addition to 3 dual enrollment courses through a local community college (Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 + 2 w their accompanying lab courses, business calculus, and American Sign Language 1 +2. )

Extracurriculars- HS Theatre (3 years stage managing fall play + 1 year props managing fall play, 4 years cast member in spring musical, student director/ stage manager for Junior High Play as a junior and senior, director for my school’s one act play festival for 2 years) HS Marching band (band captain 1 year, uniforms captain 4 years, squad leader 3 years, section leader 2 years), HS wind ensemble (principle second flute for 2 years), campaign manager for a man running in a local school board race, peer mentor for handicapped students at the local elementary school (2 years), HS Gay/Straight Alliance (co-leader for 3 years), and a few other various community theatre credits.

Over 50 volunteer hours from working on the campaign, from a group called “Brainstorming for a Blue Ohio” which organizes events to try and make Ohio more democratic, peer mentoring, and tutoring a 7th grader in math and science.

Work Experience (is this relevant?) - 2 summers of working 40 hour weeks as a janitor at my high school (+ 1 summer supervising said janitors), 1 summer working part time in a shaved ice food truck.

I want to study computer science if that is relevant too! Thank you sooo much!

It is difficult to say, might be a bit of a reach for you based on your GPA, but I would not say that you have anything that would be a deal breaker. Definitely worth applying. While you may get admission, I would not expect any merit based aid. Financial aid for you, if you receive any based on need, will likely come in the form of loans, which must be repaid.

Work experience, for the purposes of college admissions, is mainly to demonstrate discipline and maturity. It is perfectly okay if it is not relevant what your prospective future career is.

3.5 unweighted GPA, out of state…nope, not a chance. If you’re in Ohio, try Ohio State. There’s always “a chance”, but realistically, go through the accepted thread and find someone out of state with a 3.5 gpa who got in…I’ve never seen one. (unless an athletic recruit, special case, etc)

You could apply to have the application fee waved.

There is a metric ton of competition from Ohio. Only my opinion…but save your $75.
