I am a current sophomore at Wake Forest University (#27 on US News) and have applied as transfer to UVa for Spring 2017. I’ve been reading online that transferring for the spring semester is a little bit more difficult than for the fall (they only take 30-50 students out of “a couple hundred”) and that typically they want kids with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher, which is a little concerning. If you were an accepted spring transfer student or have any knowledge on the process, it would be awesome if you could shed some light and or chance me for admission. Anyway, here are my stats:
SAT: 2170
Cumulative College GPA: 3.643 (3.57 first semester, 3.72 second semester)
HS GPA: 3.45 from an small elite private school in NYC (I messed around and got 2.6 freshman year, then 3.3 sophomore, 3.9 junior yr, and 3.9 senior year)
Most Important ECs: Army ROTC, involvement but no exec/leadership positions in 3-4 campus clubs, and I attended a 7-week french language immersion program this past summer at the Middlebury Language School that basically made me fluent in french.
Recs: 2 in total from political science and math teachers, which is good bc I plan on double majoring in Poli Sci and Math at UVa…
I wrote very solid essays, one of which is quite funny which I hope will make me stick out in the pool.
I believe I have good reasons for transferring: (1) UVa has a bigger student body (Wake is pretty small with 5k students and not that exciting socially), (2) I want to major in Foreign Affairs or Government, both of which aren’t offered here (Wake only offers one major in Politics and International Affairs) whereas UVa’s department is alot bigger and offers the programs I want, (3) I want to go into the Navy after college and UVa offers Navy ROTC while Wake only offers Army ROTC
Two things worth noting:
-
I was denied when I applied my senior year of high school and was wondering if that will affect my chances/if that shapes how they view my application now…
-
I’m currently on disciplinary probation because I was caught with some weed last semester in my dorm room (Wake has a super strict one strike drug policy) and was wondering if this will severely affect my application. I did send a college report with a note from the conduct dean and wrote a good reflection on my situation on the common app…
At any rate, any input would be very appreciated
