I would say slam dunk. Bring up the test score and you may qualify for in state tuition

@gonolesdad how can an out of state student get in state tuition?
And @Kaelanae your application looks great! You’ll have no problem getting in :slight_smile: Just bring your ACT up to around 28+

If you have high enough stats, FSU awards a certain number of out-of-state students with either partial or full tuition waivers that pay for the difference between out-of-state and in-state tuition.

<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>http://admissions.fsu.edu/freshman/finances/scholarships.cfm</a>

Thanks @Pasbal‌ would you happen to know of the profile of someone that got these waivers would be like? And this is based 100% on academic merit and extracurriculars don’t have a factor into it, right?

I only personally know one out-of-state person that got a tuition waiver for undergrad. I believe their high school GPA was like a 4.7 and she had a 34 ACT.

I don’t know what all is counted towards the waiver. I’d assume that extracurriculars would play a role especially if trying to determine between a few candidates.

Thanks! I went to one of their info sessions in June and they said it was an automatic waiver if you had a certain GPA and a 30 ACT. But that’s not what their website says… :-/ A family friend works at FSU so I’ll ask him about it…

My dad called the admissions counselor and emailed this to me:

"she shared with me what the numbers were for the out of state students entering this fall that earned these scholarships:

50% Waiver (from $21,500 ==> $14,500 tuition): 3.5 weighted gpa/29 ACT score
100% Waiver (from $21,500 ==> $6,500 tuition): 3.5 weighted gpa/30 ACT score

And of course you know they superscore the ACT tests and the gpa is weighted based upon core academic classes and extra weight given to honors and AP classes."

I think you could have a great shot at it @Kaelanae. Bring up your ACT score and it’ll be great!

Thank you all so much!

Was there anything about SAT scores in that?

I called up the admissions office. For SATs the levels were 1900 for a partial, and 1960 for a full at least for this past year’s applicants.

Keep in mind that FSU doesn’t just use SAT/ACT scores for things like that… GPA and course rigor is going to play a huge role in determining scholarships as well.

The 3.5 GPA quoted above is hardly accurate- a 3.5 weighted GPA is below the 25th percentile for even accepted GPAs for FSU. There’s no way that with only a 3.5 GPA (and no test scores, significant course rigor, etc) that FSU would throw money at an out-of-state student.

That may very well be. I’m simply reporting the information as provided to me.
