Chance me? (OOS)

Hello!

New to this forum but just looking for a little information (or hope).

Out of state student hoping to get into UCSB (first choice). I’m a hopeful communications major, political science alternate. UCSB is the only UC I applied to, as I’m from Florida so moving across the country would only be an option for a school I absolutely adore. I do understand the cost of attendance.

Weighted GPA: 4.25
SAT: 1330
Class President
Involved in an exclusive school leadership program (Outlined in one of the essays)
100+ Hours of Community Service
LGBT Student
All honors, some Dual Enrollment/AP Credits (All passed on final examination)

Don’t pull any punches! Thanks in advance!

Is your weighted GPA of 4.25, the capped weighted UC GPA? Only AP classes taken 10-11th grades with a maximum for 8 extra honors points for these classes are used in the for OOS UC capped weighted GPA calculation.
OOS Honors courses do not get the extra weighting.

Have you taken a year long Visual/Performing arts course?

Hey! Thanks for the response, my I’m not sure of my UC GPA but I will calculate it now.
My AP courses were 11th grade, apart from that all other courses were Honors and College-Preparatory.
I have an excessive amount of High School credits, and yes I took a year of Dance in 9th grade.
I also have 2 consecutive years of a foreign language in a medium/high level, and two semesters of Business courses, both Honors/College Prep.

Some UCSB statistical data:

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted UC GPA) and not major specific:
UCSB: 53.6%

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above:
UCSB: 82.0%

2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCSB: 4.13

2018 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

UCSB: 1270-1500

UCSB OOS admission rates are higher than for in-state applicants but few matriculate due to high costs. Expect little to no financial aid (need-based or merit) so plan to pay close of full price at $65K/year to attend.

I think your chances are at least 50/50. A higher SAT score would help.

Best of luck.

Being OOS might actually help since the UCs love the OOS tuition.
Your ECs look great and will make you stand out.
Your SAT is slightly on the low side, but not bad. Calculate that UC capped weighted GPA, that’s the important determinant.

I’m pulling for you!! That $160K in OOS tuition (current price, rises each year) really helps the UC system. And because no financial aid is available for OOS kids it all falls right to the UC bottom line.
