What are my chances of getting into UCSB?

Hi everybody. I am applying to UC Santa Barbara and wanted to know if I had a shot at getting in. I’m in 11th grade from the east coast in a moderately low income family. I scored a 1250 on the SAT and a 27 on the ACT. I have a 4.3 GPA. I have approximately 400 hours of community service (being a part of two volunteer programs) and I am a president of a club at my school. I am the captain of two varsity sports teams as well. I don’t know how much those extracurriculars mean to this university but I figured I’d include them here anyways. Also, I have family living in the state of California. I still have time to improve my standardized test scores before application deadlines next year. Hope this is enough information. Thanks!

First, UC’s calculate their own weighted GPA using only 10-11th grades for the UC a-g course requirements.

As an OOS applicant, only AP/IB or Dual Enrollment courses taken 10-11th grades get the extra weighting in the calculation but HS designated Honors do not. I like to use the RogerHub calculator which will give you the UW UC GPA, the Capped Weighted UC GPA (8 semesters of weighted courses) and the Fully Weighted UC GPA (unlimited semesters of weighted courses).

Also make sure you meet all the a-g course requirements for the UC’s.

Be aware that the California UC’s do not offer financial aid to OOS students so expect to pay full fees at $60K/year to attend.

Here is the Freshman profile for UCSB 2017. The 2018 data should be out this August for comparison. Also intended major can make you huge difference on your chances.
UCSB weights academics at around 50% and EC’s/Essays 50%.
