essay topics: My essays won't be horrible...but I'm not really liking the essay topics.

A friend of mine got in OOS and I think her numbers were pretty similar to yours. I have no idea about how finaid stuff works out there though, for some reason I thought it was for people who are in-state only, but i could be completely wrong. Good luck, I have tons of friends there and they are really happy!

Your only weakness is your essays. To get into Cal from OOS, you need to have high SAT/ACT scores (32+ on the ACT or 2200+ on the SAT), a near-perfect GPA (4.2+ UC weighted), and REALLY good essays. Something to make you stand out from the other 6-7 applicants you’re fighting for a spot.

I don’t see how you WON’T get in with that, other than writing a BS essay. OOS honestly isn’t that much of a difference from instate from what I’ve seen (I was OOS-east coast, and I also had a friend from my HS that came to Berkeley). Financial aid will depend a lot on how much your family makes.

You’re overestimating the selectiveness of Cal. Those stats you highlighted are like Ivy level.

Spend a lot of time on your essays. Your stats are great, strong enough for Cal and possibly more. Even though the prompts may be discouraging, mold them to fit you and I’m sure you’ll be successful.
