Chance me please 2400 ORM

Well, here are the things I can think of so far:
International
Canadian citizenship, asian ethnicity

Schools:
Stanford EA
Wharton

these are my top 2 choices

Harvard
Columbia
MIT Sloan

I'm applying to as well for sure

Maybe applying to (choosing a few):
Northwestern
UChicago
Dartmouth
UC Berkeley
NYU Stern
Cornell
Yale (nothing personal, just don't like it as much)
Michigan Ann Arbor (I heard its on a rolling admissions system?)
If anyone is familiar with UK system then Cambridge as well and Oxford for the heck of it :P.

GPA: Cumulative UW 3.95? I think I had 2 Bs though in phys ed, does that count?
Also, I don't really know how to weight my gpa, can someone refer me to a guide?
Class rank: school doesn't rank but its a fairly competitive school. Our IB program accepts 80 students max and covers a population of 700k-1 million so others take ap lol.

SAT I: 2400
SAT IIs:
Lit: 760
Phys: haven't taken yet but easy 800 (taking in oct)
Math 2c: same as physics

IB diploma:
taking:
Math, phys, chem higher level
french, english, history standard level
though I might switch chem to history higher level
got a 6 on IB french exam, the rest will only be predicted grades. Expecting around 40 or so, will probably score higher on the actual exams but I guess that doesn't matter :(

Also self studied AP microeconomics (5) since I plan on going to business school or majoring in economics and my school doesn't offer the IB equivalent. Taking the macro this year and maybe psych or statistics

From here on I'm just going to list everything so I would appreciate comments on which are significant and which are not.

In no particular order:
Clubs:
Vice-President Business Club Won provincial 1st place (its a club where we start new ventures so the best venture gets it each year) - likely president this year (3 years)

President of Tech Club- club also helps teachers with technology related issues (2 years)

World Politics Society- basically MUN every week in our school also attended various MUN events (3 years)

International Action Club - various volunteer/service events, varies each year, mostly helping build infrastructure in Africa (3 years)

Editor for School Newspaper - fairly straightforward, newspaper covering school events with editorials on international happenings (2 years)

My teacher wants me to join debate this year and I think I can probably place well in regional and provincial levels, I like it but didn't have time before, not really counting on this for much.

Other Activities:
-Tutor other students in my grade and sometimes above as part of a peer tutor program
-Project Manager of a group that won a university sponsored website/logo design contest for a non profit organization
-Project Manager of a group evaluating efficient energy usage and creating a proposal to present to our city's school board (700k pop for our municipality though there are others considered part of our city)
-Piano for 4 years
-Guitar for 2 years
-Clarinet for 3 years, first clarinet for well known school band

Other stuff:
Team Leader for a group that won a bridge design contest at the provincial level (did this because I liked it, I know it seems out of place)
National Honour Roll every year for the CEMC Waterloo mathematics contest every year
4th place in a big regional math contest wasn't really my thing since it was more about speed than anything else.

I know my ec's aren't that great, tips on how to improve them/smooth it over would be appreciated

I might start a literary club this year that continues activities that used to be organized by a teacher that left. It's something I mulled over for a year now but didn't have time to do.

I don't have that many clubs but I spent alot of effort in most of mine. The business club I spent the most time on, since I knew I wanted to do something business related early on. Its something I enjoy doing alot but I'm not sure if I should write it into an essay since I have a few other really great topics that relate more to my personal traits.

Go on the assumption that my essays will be quite good to killer and my recs one will be kick ass and the other will be quite good as well.

By the way, if you guys don't mind, could you post my chances if I wasn't ORM and international as well, a few friends were wondering how much it would affect their chances as well. I'll also add stuff as I remember it as I'm quite sleepy right now.

PS-tips of whether I should apply fa for a few schools would be appreciated as well, for my top choices I don't care about taking a loan.
edit: oops, forgot the schools

good of a chance as any.

just make sure to right some good essays.

its all in the essays.

The korean private school kids scare me lol, I need more opinions before deciding what schools I want to apply for :( have gotten very different views so far

also, can you list what you think each school would be?

You might get more responses over at the "What are my chances" forum.

Stanford EA - reach
Wharton - reach
Harvard - reach
Columbia - reach
MIT Sloan - reach
Northwestern - match
UChicago - awesome essays? match
Dartmouth - low reach
UC Berkeley - reach
NYU Stern - match
Cornell - low reach
Yale - reach
Michigan Ann Arbor - Matchy/safety

And Davidson Fellows are waaaay more scary than korean kids.

I thought I would also add that I can probably ask my instructor or a counsellor from epgy stanford, which I was in this summer for a rec, I think they like me quite alot. Would that help much? or should I get my business club advisor who I've known for 4 years but writes not as good recs? Also, can I repost this there at the other forum or is that not allowed?

You have a good chance at Oxbridge. They're primarily numbers based and you have good numbers. Be warned however, Oxbridge gives TERRIBLE financial aid for internationals (if any aid at all).

You have a terrific shot at Oxbridge, definitely

You have a good chance at any of your schools, including the Ivies. Your GPA and SATs are outstanding, and your ECs are very good as well. Just as a heads up, if you plan on applying to Oxford and Cambridge, they completely disregard your ECs. They only look at your academic profile, which shouldn't be a problem for you anyways.

Good luck in college!

can I get a few more opinions regarding stanford in particular and harvard/mit/columbia? which part of my application should I emphasize for these schools?

also, how much will applying for fa affect my chances at stanford ea?

and thank you to the mod who moved this thread :D.

Haha, are you by any chance Boris?

Yeah, great chances at all those schools.

thanks for chancing me. it seems you are in a similar situation as I am, being an ORM and an international. that said, just as long as your stats are good and you aren't applying for financial aid you will probably stand an excellent chance. needless to say, your SATs are impressive.

your ECs should reflect more leadership and volunteering. i'm sure that around your region there's a lot of public-related activities to do, such as working at a hospital, which is what i did.

here are my thoughts on your chances:

Stanford EA - reach (didnt know there was a stanford EA??? in that case, better to go Dartmouth ED)
Wharton - reach
Harvard - high reach
Columbia - reach
MIT Sloan - high reach
Northwestern - match
UChicago - match
Dartmouth ED - low reach
UC Berkeley - match
NYU Stern - safety
Cornell - low reach
Yale - high reach
Michigan Ann Arbor - ?

I was reading this, and I was like, how does this person know so much about me? D: that's like my profile, down to the IB courses (except for SL Econ for me)

truthfully, I'm just gonna tell you what I tell myself. it's all up to essays and luck at this point. your stats are good, your ec's are decent, once those essays get written, you can only hope. however, chances are, you'll get into one of your top 5 if your school has a good record of sending students to top schools. do you go to a private school?

You can only apply to Oxford or Cambridge AND THE DEADLINE IS 15TH OCTOBER SO GET APPLYING!!!! (20th Sept if you want an overseas interview). But anyway, the bit quoted above is the only part of your post that matters in any way to oxbridge admissions. Usually they give a " conditional offer" of about 41 IB points to accepted students. If you don't make the conditions, the offer is withdrawn.

thanks for the info cupcake, applying to uk schools was a pretty recent decision for me

also, anyone know anything about those proficiency tests one has to take at cambridge? is there any way to study for them?

If you apply to the UK you have to choose a 'major' (though that word itself means nothing) when you apply and cannot change. For some subjects there are apptitute tests. notably HAT for History, BMAt for medicine and LNAT for law. But I can't tell you if you will have to take one unless you tell me what subject you are applying for.

I'm pretty set on economics so not being able to change doesn't really matter to me. I guess I have to take the tsa but I've only found the official test available online. I looked some gmat questions before and they seemed similar for the questions concerning assumptions. Where can I find review for the other ones? and what kind of scores am I looking at for a good chance of getting in?

And could someone clarify for me:
do we only need 1 reference letter for cambridge?
how to fill in the address lines? I assume:
address
city,province/state
postal/zip code
?

I have no idea. The Cambridge web-site will no doubt have all the answers. Or try a UK version of this board at
<a href="http://www">www</a>. the student room .co .uk
remove the spaces for it to work.

I have no idea what this years UCAS form looks like, but when I filled it in there was only 1 reference needed. So if it says one, it's one.

Fill it in so when they send a letter to you, it will arrive! People in the UK write their addresses just like you do in the US. House number, street, town, county, post code. I know in some European countries they write this upside down (country first, name last), but in the UK it is not the case. I really wouldn't stress about this too much!
