ECs:
----- Livermore Hindu Temple priest (Yes, I'm a priest...the same stereotypes for Catholic priests don't apply ;] ) for 4 years. I learn Sanskrit through Y! Messenger from teacher in India
----- Creator of chess club in school. Member of Peninsula Chess Center and Kolty Chess Center. Member of United States Chess Fed...chess has inspired me to make new board games...I invent new board games for fun.
----- 3rd President of Math Club in school history. Last year when I was only VP, I got second highest AMC 12 score in school (though I missed the AIME qualifying score by a question ...)
----- Vice President of the newly created Science Bowl team...I petitioned our school to offer AP Comp Sci..I talked to teachers, I got 50 signatures from students, and advertised it. It tried passing twice in the past, but it had failed. I made it happen. I've done "great service to the school by doing so" according to a teacher.

Additional info?
One additional rec from the director of COSMOS

Our school is complete CRAP...no joke...around 6 people break a 2000 on the SAT each year...teachers have like a 40% passing rate for AP classes....we send about 6 people to UC Berkeley each year...no one's gotten into MIT and Yale for the past 10 years...maybe one person into Stanford each year....
Just this year, one of our school's teacher was arrested in charge of sexually assaulting a minor...and our Chief custodian is forced to quit his job for sexual charged against model minors...our principal was sacked.

I studied ALL my elementary years back in India. I came to America in middle school, so I guess that's a plus? That's why my CR score kinda sucks...

buuuuuuuuuuuummpp

your scores are pretty mediocre especially for being asian, it doesnt seem like you have any really outstanding ec’s… but you never know. it sounds like you have a couple unique hobbies. good luck!

^You mean AP? Yeah I know…but the SAT scores are…pretty high aren’t they? I was told anything above a 2100 was treated the same in Ivy admissions…

I would disagree with platypodes. Perhaps I’m not familiar enough with all those science awards you got, but it seems like those are pretty impressive. And honestly, it seems like a lot of colleges like Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, etc frequently accept students with with one outstanding area of expertice (science for you) and seemingly “mediocre” test scores. I wouldn’t say you’re for sure gonna get it, but you certainly have a chance.

Did you already apply or are you currently a junior?

I applied already…i applied engineering.

and I don’t get how being asian matters for test scores…

^
Being Asian is the equivalent of having 150 points subtracted from your SAT score, just for them to view your application the same as a white applicant.

2240 is somewhat low for an Asian applicant.

^ Are you joking?! I got the third highest SAT score in our school!!! omg. and i go to a bay area school.

a lot of asians in my school are 2.9/3.2 GPA students…is race really that big of a deal?
Last year a Chinese female from our school got into Stanford with a a 1980.
A Chinese male got into Duke with a 2180.

Wow! They both must have written awesome essays!

I don’t really understand the point of chance threads if you’ve already applied. Well, good luck, and don’t let college admissions get you down.

It’s too late to start worrying about this kind of thing, what has been done is done, and I’m positive you’ll be able to get into a great school

most of those prizes are chosen by the school, and since (by your own admission) you go to a “crappy” school, it’s really not worth much at all. your chess awards (no offense) don’t seem all that prestigious either (peninsula chess center, kids rule chess tournament?) – your most notable one is almost making AIME, which, in itself, is barely notable. learning sanskrit is unique, however. your sat 2’s are a bit mediocre as well – as saugus mentioned before, being asian sort of gives you a higher standard.

^Well, what else am I supposed to do? I thought i did all I could do in my school.

Perhaps that is true, but with these schools, you’re competing against the best of the best in the entire world. One of the few times when your “best” just may not be good enough. But nobody really knows until decisions come out, because we are all in the same boat as you.

What you hope for is that they will realize that you were working with limited resources, and that you have enormous potential and could very well excel in an environment that offers you a more rich academic and extracurricular life.

I would say that your chances at Pton are slim…though you have a MUCH better shot at some lower ivies.

What Bay Area school did you go to?
