Chance Me Please, and I will Chance Back

Hello, I am a current junior enrolled in high school in Ohio. I would like to know my chances for Penn State University Park, The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, and University of Michigan...

Stats

Act:29 (first try, definitely going to retake)
SAT: 1960 (first try definitely going to retake)
GPA: 3.3(unweighted) and around 3.7 weighted
Class Rank: Top 25 %
Very rigorous course load

Extracurricular

Student Council Member(5 years)
NHS member
Numerous internships including one with Cleveland Clinic Hospitals
300 volunteer hours logged with local hospital and library
Regional Chess competition winner
Active in local youth commission

OSU, PSU, UCincinatti: match, but you should really try to get that UW GPA up a bit next year. It’s good that you’re taking rigorous classwork though, colleges really like to see that. Also, good ECs, doing ECs for a long time shows dedication and determination.

UMich: reach for now, but with better standardized test scores and GPA, you’ll have better chances

Chance me please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1647493-chance-me-for-psu-pitt-temple-cmu-upenn.html#latest

All are matches except UM, simply because you’re out of state. Even U Mich is a low reach. I think what’s hurting you is your gpa. Your test scores are actually in good shape for your schools though, why do you think you need to retake them?

Your scores are almost identical to my son’s first sets of ACTs and SATs; he retook, and got 2060 on the SAT and 31 on the ACT. That put him into a better competitive position. His unweighted GPA wasn’t much better than yours, but his weighted was close to a 4.0, and he had terrific ECs. I’d say that Michigan is a reach, but worth a try (especially if your stats rise and you have a rigorous senior curriculum). As an Ohio resident, will you qualify for reciprocal tuition privileges there? Penn State should be a high-match, from out-of-state; I’d re-classify it as a match if your stats improve by fall.

Michigan seems a bit of a reach. Everything else seems fine. Work on SAT/ACT chance back please

Thank you for the help guys. @mirandastern, since it was my first time, I feel with extra practice I can get it up to a 32 with studying and prep work. @woogzmama, I realize that my unweighted GPA is on the lower end that is why I am really focusing this year to raise it. I realize that UMICH is unlikely, but my parents want me to apply there :). Thanks for the help everybody!
