Dear tabtab : Your resume reads like two very different people were contributing during High School. Unfortunately, a High School transcript needs to include all of your grades to show that you completed the course of study needed for a High School diploma. As a result, you are only going to show a top-third performance when BC is typically seeking top ten percent students in GPA. That said, you have to put this information into your application and speak with an admissions counselor.

Your board scores (two way 1280, three way 1990) are really below the midpoint at BC where the middle now sits around 1350-1380/2070-2090 or so. Your ACT at 30 is pretty much the minimum of what we have seen largely accepted at BC - even 29s are not getting any respect now.

The result is that on the hard numbers, including your GPA, you are below the midpoint - probably around the 25th percentile overall - so there is a long road up from here.

Your activites list is fine with sports, music, volunteerism and a diverse interest set. You would likely add to the campus environment should you stay involved.

Boston College at this point is a stretch school for you as it is for many. The academics, particularly in the sciences, might be beyond where you are right now. My guess is that you have a 45% chance of acceptance - if you can sell that freshman year story! You are that average resume for BC that reads like many others that sit on the bubble. Absolutely apply as location might help.

Dear tabtab and all : One more word on why my reviews focus on the midpoint so often. With more Ivy League schools shunting applications in favor of diversity, schools like Boston College, Georgetown, and the like are the beneficiaries of an increasingly stronger applicant pool and an increasingly strong acceptance base (yield from acceptances is the same, which is moving stats upward quickly). At BC, the SAT two way midpoints increased 60-80 points, depending on your source, over the last year. This is a huge jump. Applications that sat in the former "30th percentile" are now being pressed into the bottom quartile and similarly up the chain. Additionally, BC is looking to take that final leap into the Top 20 schools in America - investment plans, infrastructure, expanded faculty are all in the cards. So, the admissions goal is to rapidly increase the quality of the academics in the student body while still trying to balance all of the other parameters needed for a healthy campus.

Thank you so much for your help and time. I understand it is a bit of stretch
