Chance me please! Andover, Choate, Exeter, SPS and Lawrenceville!

Chance me for Andover/Exeter
I'm a Canadian student in eighth grade, in a run-of-the-mill public school [but hey, we do get top honors in the Canadian Math League competitions], and I'm enrolled in the enhanced program for intellectually gifted students [tested in the top 2% of the population, English, history, math, and geo are enhanced]. In case you are unfamiliar with the Enhanced program [which is probably most of you, as it is a Canadian program], we take the regular curriculum and delve deeper. For example, in writing, we're writing neo-gothic short stories [2000-3000 words], with elements of destructive/passionate love, decay, and disturbing events [we analyzed Gothic literature, and elements]

So, in terms of grades

For grade 7, my average was 95% [excluding art, music, drama, and gym]-that would translate into a 4.0 UW GPA on the 4.0 scale
For grade eight, my average in math is 99 [we've completed two units so far], my history average is 98 [completed one unit], and my science average is 95 [two chapters completed]. We have not received any info regarding our averages in other subjects. I expect to get a much higher average in grade eight than I did in grade 7.

In terms of awards:
I have won two national essay competitions, sponsored by hockey hall of fame, and habitat for humanity, respectively.
I have won two national creative writing competitions [one poetry, one short story]. The competitions were put out by Polar Expressions and Young Writers of Canada [in this competition, I beat out eighteen year olds, but then again, your entry was viewed in the context of your age] I was shortlisted in two other national writing competitions, and was published in four anthologies.
I scored in the top 10% in the nation for the GAUSS mathematics contest, as well as the Canadian national math league. Additionally, I won regionals in the "Peel Think Bowl".

Sports: I play competitive [rep] hockey [9th year, a boatload of awards and trophies], and competitive [rep] lacrosse [same as hockey] -we have won multiple championships, and won the provincials [Ontario]. Additionally, I will be starting competitive rowing in the spring.
I have played on the varsity teams for: hockey, football, volleyball, track and field [100m, 200 m, relay race, 400 m, tug of war] and cross country.

In terms of school involvement: I started a class newspaper, and had a four year run as editor in chief [and main contributor]. I had a lead role in the school musical, the play, was part of the band [I have played trumpet for two years], choir, acted as an emcee for various assemblies, and helped out around the school-office helper, did the morning announcements, and was in charge of recycling.

Community involvement:volunteered at a seniors home, read to seniors, and put on a play for them [abbot and costello].

So, what are my chances? I swear I am not a troll, I made this account specifically so I could ask what my chances were? Thanks. Oh, btw, on a mock ssat I got 96%-so I hope I will do well on the real thing.

c’mon guys! bump!

I wouldn’t expect to get a lot of responses, because frankly you don’t need them. You know you’re an exceptionally strong candidate.

I have to admit that posts like this annoy me a little. I always think of the, “I invented velco, won the Pulitzer, am taking differential calculus as a 7th grader, my paintings hang in the Louvre and I’ve been drafted into the NHL-do you think I’ll get into Exeter?” posts as mining for praise.

Hockeynerd, I’m sure you’re a nice kid. Just relax, go through the process, dot your i’s and cross your t’s and I’m sure all will turn out well.

Oh. Well, thanks. I wasn’t mining for praise-rest assured, and I’m far from being an uber-candidate, as i go to a run of the mill public school! And aside from writing, there isn’t much about me that stands out.

Hockey, writing, high grades and scores. You’ll be fine.

:-)

thanks! :)

Yup, you
re my competition. Just wondering why you don
t have any Canadian BS on your list?

Oh-it didn’t really occur to me-ucc only offers ib, and that doesn’t appeal to me, and appleby doesn’t have good enough fa.

Be sure to send videos and also pre-arrange appointments with the coaches for when you have your interviews and are on campus

sooooo… we are all anxious???
