CHANCE ME PLEASE! :))) DARTMOUTH, TUFTS, EMORY, NORTHWESTERN

Hello all!

I am taking a rigorous coursework with 14 AP classes under my belt by the end of senior year. Also, I know that I’ll have pretty good teacher recs.

SAT I (breakdown): 1470 SAT score (750 Math and 720 Reading w/21 on essay)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.87
Weighted GPA (out of 5.0): 4.55
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 62/875, which makes me top 8%
AP (place score in parenthesis): So far, 4 on Psychology and World History

Major Awards: Top 40 in the nation in congressional debate last year, ranked 25th in the nation currently and ranked 30th in the nation in extemporaneous speaking and 8th in the nation in informative speaking. Also, state finalist in debate and national semifinalist. National Merit Commended Score and National Merit Semifinalist.

Extracurriculars (leadership in parenthesis):
Debate (Team Officer, Congress Captain) - 3 years
Model UN (Undersecretary General) - 3 years
UIL Competitive Current Events Team - 3 years

Job/Work Experience: Private Tutoring (5 hours a week for two years)
Volunteer/Community service: (over 200 hours total)

Recommendations: strong; from AP Lang teacher and Debate Coach

Intended Major: Political Science
State: TX
Ethnicity: Indian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Parents’ combined earning is $150,000

*** ALSO: I had a question - I’m an Indian applying in Political Science/ International Relations. Because I’m a minority in the field I’m applying to, does that help my chances? thanks!

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. Your ECs relate to each other and clearly show your interest in debate and political science. Applying as an Indian in a non-STEM subject won’t really help your application. Write amazing essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

Dartmouth: Reach (as it is for everyone)
Tufts: High-ish match
Emory: Match
Northeastern: Match

Your SAT and GPA are quite good. Also your awards make you stand out. I think the hardest part for you will be trying to stand out. I think there are a lot of debate kids who have as good (or better) stats then you, so in your essays really make sure to show your personality and go below the surface.
