The 390 on Lit was a result of me answering 12 questions and quiting in the middle (headache). THIS IS MY CATASTROPHE. Will this shut me out of the top schools??? Thanks alot!

There's usually one place on an application that asks, "Please tell the committee anything they might not know from the rest of your application that you think is important for us to know." Or words like these: Is there anything about your transcript or record that you feel requires explanation, that we could not surmise by reading your application? If so, please describe."

That's the place to just write one sentence that states, simply, that you attribute your unusual low SAT score, the first time you took Lit, to a severe headache mid-exam. And that you retook it and earned ___.

Shouldn't be a problem.

(Someday soon, it'd be wise to calm the drama a bit. I know you have a lot at stake and it gets excitable and nervewracking to present all this. Still, "Major catastrophe" is a tsunami. Low SAT score might be "Serious issue" or "Cause for Concern" or "Difficult Problem" ;)

As paying3tuitions said, having a headache is not a catastrophe. A serious illness to you or the family, an estrangement, a natural disaster causing you to not finish your schooling... these are catastrophes. A headache is easily explainable- remember what's good in your life! Goodness. Someone with such an impressive resume and great accomplishments like yourself should remember that.

Anyway, I'm going to not get preachy(-er)... lol. Like I said, your resume looks great, and you have a fair shot at all of those schools, probably good as in at all those non-Ivy,Stanford,MIT schools. Just keep things in perspective, okay?

hey i'm really sorry about blowing this thing out of proportion...i was just worried..

i just wanted to ask if it is really necessary to retake lit because i was taking lit just as an exctra sat II the day of the test just to see what it was like (I already knew I was going to cancel because I did not think I did well on the physics)

thanks a bunch and keep the chances coming!

wow, i've heard of many kids not getting into their top schools because of insidances like this. most colleges don't even read your excuses, because thats what it is, an excuse

hey, this happened to a friend of mine. she ended up getting into penn regular, harvard ea reject. she retook the ii's though, but im sure writing the excuse in your application will be enough. i mean, your cr score should show that you have at least a fleeting ability to interpret writing.

Kyle, you fumb duck. ANCooky knows what he's talking about. Don't ever talk back to a admissions expert. there are So many Fricken n00bs on this site that think they know what they're talking about. They are wrong. Cooky is the $hit!!!!
