Chance me, please: Duke, UVA, W&L, HYP, Stanford, Dartmouth, Columbia, Rice

I am a rising senior at a diverse public school in northern Virginia. I will be 17 when applying. I am a fairly good writer, so I don't believe the essays will be a problem. I also assume my rec's will probably be, for these schools, average -- a word someone will probably jump on but one by which I mean just that, not mediocre but average.

Make sure your ranking improves. Also, do some volunteering. If your essays are creative I think you may have a good shot at Stanford and columbia…otherwise, everywhere except HYP is a definite yes. HYP are so unpredictable so I am not sure but give it a shot!

^^I’m sure Stanford admissions is happy to have boosters like you to make Stanford even more exclusive (it is the toughest school to get into in the country) than it already is…but, I’m sure the students applying would NOT appreciate your “misinformation” or shall I say “naivete”…

It’s all a crapshoot. Although your test scores are on the low side for schools like HYPS, you’re a very qualified candidate. But then again so are many of the students who get rejected. All you can do is write some good essays, and don’t expect the best, just hope for it.
