Hey guys, thanks in advance for your help!

Applying for Grade 12/Postgraduate level.
I live in Canada, Quebec. I'm currently in grade 10 and applying for the grade 12 level/post-graduate level at Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, etc as a boarding student.

My overall average at school is a 92%
English - 88%
French - 83%
Religion - 92%
Drama - 95%
Math - 95%
History - 94%
Media - 94%
Science/Biology - 93%
I don't play any instruments, however, I speak 4 languages:
English, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese fluently. I've done community service, I do not excel in any particular sports, but I do participate on sports teams (basketball, frisbee).
I ski, run, play badminton and other sports, enjoy learning, having fun, and am very determined and motivated to succeed. We don't have SAT's in Canada.
And I'm very ready to write an excellent essay and to do as well as possible in my interview. I'm Chinese, but born in Canada.

Thanks again and I hope you all enjoy your holiday!

Why don’t you apply for 11th grade? I’m pretty sure those schools don’t take seniors on and I think PG year is designed for those finishing 12th grade who want more time to mature/imporve sports/grades. I’m hardly the expert though.

I’ve looked into it and some prep schools, such as Phillips Exeter has a course for grade 12/post-graduate level individuals (i’m pretty sure). Thanks for your input though, it’s appreciated.

Why are you applying for 12th grade? I don’t think you can apply for 12th when your only in 10th. You have to have finished high school to apply for a PG year.

Btw I lived in Quebec :D, where do you live?

I also live in Quebec! (Montreal to be precise) and I’m applying next year. It’s just that they check this year’s grades therefore I need to keep them high because I don’t have grade 12 in Quebec here. We go from grade 11 to College.

i knew that!! sorry,
I lived in Quebec City :)

Well back to the main topic, can anyone please actually chance me?

Tough one DarestoDream - 12th is hardly the normal entry point to boarding school and so there are relatively few spots. You almost have to count on someone getting booted out, or possibly someone losing financial aid, to open up a spot - and by 12th grade the school will bend over backwards to help a financial need.

Post-graduate is a different story - if they have a PG program, your odds go up, but they’re also looking for really strong students typically. Maybe someone to play goalie on the hockey team (or some such special talent).

Overall, my thought is that you probably need to visit, and apply to, several different schools. Especially the visit part. By talking to admissions and really engaging them in a two-way conversation, you WILL get a better feel for what they are looking for, and thus your chances.

Best of luck!

Darn that scares me. Visiting New Hampshire from Montreal is a long ride
Oh well, I’ll give it my best and we’ll see what happens. Thanks VirginiaDad for your input. I appreciate it :)

Anyone else please?

looks like you need some entrance exams like SAT, PSAT, SSAT, ISEE, etc…
