Hey! Here are my stats:
I’m from Puerto Rico, majoring in Art History: interested in Fordham, Syracuse, and Temple!
Extracurriculars:
- Drama: Played major roles for 5+ years in school plays; solo-singing experience; playwright for two years; Director of 2018 school play. From Veruca Salt in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to Velma von Tussel in Hairspray.
- President of Yearbook, 3 yrs. Main editor.
- Main school Photographer, 4 yrs. (Only one! I’m mentoring students interested before I graduate.)
- English Forensics League: Founding members, 3 yrs; entered finals multiple times. I’m considered a vital member to the team and have helped rank us up to higher categories.
- Secretary of Student Council, 2 yrs in a row.
- My school doesn’t offer languages: I have been taking private French tutoring via Skype after school every. single. day. I practice constantly.
- Guitar 3 yrs; outside of school. Mostly recreational.
- Misc. clubs I’m mostly in to photo document: Environmental Club, Red Cross. However my above roles are my major extracurriculars.
- 150+ Community Service hours. Mostly Photography work, but I’ve done tutoring and all kinds of volunteer work inside and outside of my community.
Stats:
- My school doesn’t offer AP classes until Senior year, so I tried to be as active as possible in my extracurriculars to prove I can handle a large courseload. I’m taking AP Art History, AP English, AP Spanish right now. My school only has only five offered, I could just take 3!
- 3.75 GPA: I have a learning disability! It was undiagnosed for the entirety of high school until Senior year, and my teachers never noticed or accommodated me. I have dyscalculia, but am a straight A student except in Math. I excused myself and offered an official document to whichever school required it. I’m pretty proud of my GPA despite the obstacle.
Essay, Letter of recs:
- My essay focused on how theatre helped me overcome my social anxiety; find passion in my studies and classes; become more outgoing, active in class; developed bravery, leadership, confidence; “the classroom evtnually became my stage”.
- I “carry” most of my class discussions. I’m super active in them. Really powerful letter of recommendations; I’m extremely close to my teachers to the point where I go out to lunch or coffee with them.
- SAT: So… I’m in Puerto Rico… and the majority of us struggle with the SAT… my school in particular didn’t emphasize the skills needed to improve on it… I couldn’t afford classes and studied my best from the books… It’s not a 1300, what do I do? Will these schools recognize my island’s educational disadvantage?
Ok that’s it. Thanks!
