I will be applying Ed.

Then try to bring up that CR or take the ACT. I think you’d get in.

Your EC’s and GPA are excellent. Your SAT scores however are avg. to below avg. Don’t shoot for a 1900+. Shoot for a 2000+ if your want serious scholarship money. Rock your essays (don’t give the generic “You don’t know how much I love you” essay). Show definite interest in GWU but not so much or so little interest that will give admissions a reason to deny you. Do something AMAZING that makes you stand out from the rest.

I should have mentioned: Visit, interview, and write an essay about GW specifics.

thanks - im not looking to get a scholarship, i just want to worry about getting in

Nevertheless, do what Schmohawk said, two posts above. GW really wants to know that you want GW. Show interest in GW–not just “college in Washington, DC,” but GW specifically.

I want to go to GWU because my entire family works for the government, and feel it will be a great gateway for me to get into the government. Also, its location is the mecca of culture and diversity.

You’ll get in. I got in this year ED 1 with a 3.8 (weighted) and a 1800 on my SATs. Granted, I did extremely well in the interview and in my essays, but still, my main components (GPA, SAT) should tell you what you need to know.

Sid, I think Schmohawk is making a more specific point–a point with which I agree emphatically. (Schmohawk, if I’ve misread you, I apologize.)

A lot of what you’ve just said could apply to Georgetown or American, or even Maryland or George Mason. When they ask you “Why GW?” (and they will), be sure your answer says something specific about GW. You can say all the rest about government service and the vitality of Washington, DC, but you would be well advised to add something that pertains only to GW–along the lines of, “I am really drawn to [name of program] at the Elliott School.”

Yes, exactly, Sikorsky. The OP should research specific programs and even professors. I even mentioned the hippo, and a few neighborhood landsmarks.

Thanks guys - this was great help

Be ready with all of this kind of info at your interview- they’ll make note of your interest.
Good Luck.

new sats are in - 1950

Okay, So I just finished my first year as a student in the engineering school. Engineering schools usually have a little bit higher acceptance rates due to the lack of applicants; however when I applied at GW the admission rate was still below a coin-flip. The Elliot School is top-notch therefore I would claim the most difficult to get into at GW. Your new SAT of 1950 is average across all departments because I think the average SAT for the past two years have been 1960. However the 25th percentile hovers around 1900 but is steadily rising. Oh yeah and by the way, my full SAT score was 1900 while I had not even interviewed with anyone nor visit the university (which for me is a metro ride away) until I was accepted. In addition, the engineering school rewarded me a $15,000 a year scholarship. It was possible for me to get into UVA and not into GW but the reverse occurred plus the scholarship was a complete shock. So its possible things could turn out favorably for you!

Your chance of admissions really depends on how your ecs relate to your intended major. I was fortunate to get into GW because I also served 3 years at a retirement home which was a good example of service and then I have 3 registered US patents. I think they recognized I wanted to be a patent lawyer and so through GW undergrad I would have a better shot at their law school. At the same time, I was elected homeroom representative to the student council 3 out of 4 years of high school. In your essay, I suggest that you stress your admiration for the school’s dedication to service… I believe this component from my essay was the frosting on my application’s cake.

I think you’ll get in. I got in this year, my high school gpa is a 3.0-3.1. My SAT score is a 1370.

You can definitely get in. I got in last year ED with a 28 ACT 8 W, and a 3.0 gpa . As long as you interview and show how much you love GW, you’ll get in.

The actual number of your GPA isn’t as important as what classes you took. Did you challenge yourself with a lot of AP and honors courses?
