Do i need more safeties?

“Do i need more safeties?”

Yes you do.

Not sure why you’re still hanging around here, Silence…
But to put it in a nicer and more helpful way-- Your ACT and SAT scores aren’t looking great. The University of Rochester seems like a good “safety” that you’re 80% likely to get into (from what I know) but maybe a couple more like that would be a good idea. Your ECs are interesting enough. Put the right spin on them, and maybe you’ll get lucky. Admission is one big gamble. Good luck. If you have time retake some of those tests.

This is a forum for everyone and I was answering his question. Any problems? Most of the Universities that he listed are not safeties. He should have like 1 or 2 more safeties.

P.S.: I’m all over CC not just the Columbia sub-section. It’s a helpful site, and I try to pitch in whenever I can ;)

Your SAT 2 Scores are good, but your Math and Writing scores on the SAT Reasoning are not competitive at all for Columbia. Retake the exam in January if you want a legitimate shot.

im a girl first of all…and okay thank you for the bluntness i needed that…i’ve editted my list of schools. idk if ill apply to columbia its more just like a dream and ive added more safeties such as george washington university? and i took off upenn…for obvious reasons
thanks for the helppp

Banned, do you know if Columbia accepts Jan 22nd SAT scores?

^ Yes, actually Every Ivy school does.

Add some schools. Not because you wont get into any of the schools listed above, but you would always rather have the ability to choose than just one choice for you. I think your best shot would be Emory, not including Rochester where your probably over qualified enough to get a good amount of scholarship aide. Other match schools could be SUNY: Binghampton, Fordham University, Northeastern, Boston University. Most of the above schools though are just out of your range.

I am sorry but I believe for Ivies you really need 2200+ at least.

^Ragna, are you sure? Columbia states on their website that students score on average between 2100 and 2330 (probably middle 50%). Personally, I’m at 2190.

It always depends.
If you have an amazing GPA and extracurricular, they might cover your SAT score.
But you never know. I personally think it is safe to get at least 2200+

Thanks guys. I got accepted into UC Berkeley today! and I probably wont get into columbia which would be the only school above berkeley id wanna go to. plus id rather go to cali!
Thank you all for the responses i really appreciate it and wish you all the best of luck in your own college process!

ragna - There’s a dude in Harvard with a 2010 SAT score and none-too-brilliant SAT 2 scores either.

There obviously are exceptions
