My friend and I started the Invisible Children club at our school, it's a club that raises money to help kids in Africa.
I mentored one morning a week this year at an elementary school, and doing that again next year.
I have coached swim team for the past two years, will do it next summer as well. I also teach tons of swim lessons over the summer.

So you think that I could get into...
-Wake Forest
-Davidson
-Furman
-Brown
-Vanderbilt
-Georgetown
-Columbia

Thank you! and I WILL chance back.

Great rank and good course difficulty and GPA makes up for a slightly lower ACT and weaker GPA. You’re in at Vanderbilt, Wake, Davidson, and Furman, with Gtown, Brown and Columbia being reaches. If you decide to ED to either Brown or Columbia (I think you should), you have a good shot at getting in.

Thank you billabong! Do you have a chance thread?

PS. is a 4.51 (4.0 unweighted) really low? I mean, I’ve gotten all A’s all through HS.

I think you have a great shot at those schools, but you are kind of up in the air for Georgetown and Columbia and Brown. The others I think you should get into for sure.

Also you 4.51 GPA is good, no need to worry about that.

EDIT: Just an FYI but I don’t think colleges superscore your ACT, only the SAT. But correct me if I’m wrong.

I think you are misreading what I posted or was my post misleading; the 4.0/4.5 is great GPA. It will make up for the other slightly weaker portions of your app.

Wake Forest, Davidson, and Furman seem to be safeties/low reaches for you because people at my school got into those schools with a far inferior transcript than yours

Okay, thanks so much, everyone! I appreciate it. If any of you post your chance threads, I will gladly chance you.

Also::: College of William and Mary

Honestly, everything looks good. I would add maybe something to your extracurriculars (something irregular). I don’t know a whole lot about most of the schools you listed, but Brown is a reach for anyone.

I honestly think you are very well qualified for any of these schools. Just a piece of advice: I know schools superscore the SAT, but I don’t know if they superscore the ACT. I have seen sub scores for the SAT in college admissions, but never for the ACT.

Thanks so much, guys. Also, thanks wrightm, I will have to find some random club to join. I would do more clubs and stuff, but I’m really, REALLY involved with cross country and track, so there’s not much more time left in my day.

**I think that SOME schools superscore the ACT. I mean, I know its only one point, but you never know.

Hey quick thing about clubs. If you’re not into it, don’t do it. Find something you love to do, and do it. NEVER join a club just for college. I was assuming you had other interests and that is where you should join clubs. However, if you are extremely involved in school sports, I don’t necessarily see a problem then. :)

BTW, Duke superscores ACT

If you get recruited, you’re in (obviously). If you aren’t, then you might want to pick another college because you said you want to run in college.

In everywhere except Columbia/Brown/GT, where you have a shot.

Good grades and ACT score. Your ECs are solid, and I think you’ll get in 2/3 reaches depending on your essays. Good luck!

Thank you! I have been recruited by all but like 2 of the schools on there, and the others, I can just send my information to and see if they want me.

Thanks for the advice wrightm. I honestly wish that I had more time to do service and stuff, but sports take up so much time. Ugh.

first off, congrats on maintaing quite a good record. according to me, you should get into all the schools you have applied to, again, with brown possibly being your only reach (but honestly, i don’t really think you have a problem there). you have good EC’s, pretty good ACT scores, and your GPA is exactly what colleges are looking for. i can see your rank will help you too. but to be honest, you have absolutely nothing to worry about!

Good luck on your application!

Thanks so much, gajanan! Now I feel a lot better about applying. :)

I’d say you have a very good shot at all of the colleges mentioned. You have a rigorous schedule and a solid GPA. Not to mention, your ACT scores aren’t too shabby. But-I would see if there is another club/volunteer position for you to join. It might make you seem a bit more well-rounded.

If i were you I’d ride the athletic train all the way to dream-school-ville. Athletics can get you places, and your test scores are good. I’m always reluctant when I see that many APs because I wonder how many you got 5s on, but I think you’re fine for admissions. I would also get some sort of leadership because all I see is a hodgepodge of ECs without any dedication. That’s my take, take it or leave it.

seems very good, just like the others said, don’t make yourself a slave to college admissions-don’t just join clubs and AP courses to get into a good college (the idea is that you like learning in high school and you pick the courses that fit your learning preferences/passions so you can continue that trend at university). Also, quick thing, Africa is not a country-it sounds kind of superficial to write that on the application. Mention the country (and maybe specifically a locality).

If you dont mind me asking, what are your personal bests in your events (5k, 1600, 3200, etc…)?

Have you been recruited for sports?
Even if you haven’t you have solid grades, solid test scores, and very good sports record.
If i were you, and i was set on one of those colleges, I would ED (Columbia) or EA (Georgetown)
Most of the IVYs you listed seem to be low-reaches for you, and I’m willing to wager that you’ll get in to at least one of them.
