I have a very good essay, around a 9.5/10 as indicated by the feedback I received from a Villanova essay reader!

Intended Major: Computer Science. Exceptions: Villanova, Emory, NYU I’m applying for Business/Finance!

Here are my schools, I’m categorizing them to see if my expectations are realistic.

Far Reach: Carnegie Mellon, Cornell

Reach: GTech, Emory

Target: NYU, UMD College Park, UIUC, Northeastern, Case Western

Safety: Purdue, Villanova, *Syracuse, *RPI

  • Denotes I intend on applying, but if I get into my early schools I won't apply

It seems to me that you have a 34.43% chance of getting into your target schools. I wish you the best and may the odds ever be in your favor.

Are u planning ED/ED2?

wow! great scores I’m impressed! I would say that because you are applying to such high level schools that there is no way to truly say what your chances are. However I would say that you will probably get in to your safeties and reaches. I’m guessing that I haven’t said anything you haven’t already heard

Carnegie Mellon For applying to computerscience, probably a far reach. Maybe a little higher if you get an 800 on math 2, but otherwise, it is a very competitive program. If you applied for an easier program like business or science, I think it would be a target. But their computer science program is better than mit’s and stanford’s according to a lot of people.

Cornell: Somewhat more likely than Carnegie Mellon (for computer science) but still possible. I would put it as more of a reach than a high reach. I think if your essays are good you will have a good chance.

GTech: Depends on your state, if you are from Georgia, you will get in, if not, appropriately categorized as a reach.

Emory: I think it is more of a target than a reach! don’t sell yourself short!

NYU: Depends on your state. if you are from an underrepresented state I think it is very very likely, if you are from New York, good luck.

UMD College Park: I would honestly put this as a safety.

UIUC – If you are applying for compsci, honestly it is a reach, their program is one of the most compettitve in the country. If you are applying for a different major, match.

Northeastern: If you are from outside of northeast, likely/ safety. If from northeast, target/ low reach.

Case Western: target

Purdue: Safety
Villanova: depends on type of school/ area you are applying from. If you are applying from a small catholic school where 20 - 30% of your classmates are applying, target, low reach. If you are from a public school outside of the northeast/ pennsylvania area safety.

Syracuse: as long as you show some demonstrated interest you will get in.

RPI: same for this school as syracuse.

Emory has CS you know, with great placement. My advice to you would be consider employment placement.
GTech, UIUC, UMD, and Northeastern have just as good CS placement as any school in the country that’s not Stanford or UCB. However for business Cornell, NYU Stern, Emory, and CMU are the best programs on your list and placement at the other schools on your list can’t compare to these four for business.
