Chance-me, please. My dream school is Yale.

I’m a high school student in Vietnam, 11th grade. I’d like to study Public Relations, Communications or Acting.

My IELTS: 7.0-8.0 (I’m going to talk the IELTS soon.)
I ranked no.1 in class for 2 years and in the top 5 of my school for 4 years.

  • 1st Prize in District Literature and Writing Contest for Secondary School Students.
  • Hanoi’s Ambassador Of Reading Culture 2016 - 2018.

  • 2nd Prize in School English Presentation Contest
  • I Ranked no.3 at my district in a Writing competition (grade 9)
  • Awards given for giving speeches in Reading competition

Extracurricular activities:

  • I co-founded a Fashion Club and has debuted for a Fashion show that had a lot of well-known fashion designers, models in Vietnam
  • I won the 1st Prize in a provincial Dancing competition
  • I am the President Consultant of a Voluntary Club. Each year, I am the leader of a project in this club to help the poor children in some hospitals in Hanoi to celebrate Mid-autumn festivals.
  • I am a Dancer and the Head Of Media in my Dance Club.

For all the aforementioned prized, what should I do next to help myself get into my dream school? How many percents my dream can come true? Thank you so much. Stay healthy.

First, are you aware that Yale does not offer majors in PR, Communications or Acting (though there is a Theatre Studies major, which has acting classes)*?

Second, in the last admissions round, there were 36, 844 applicants. 2.241 were offered places; so about 6% of the applicants. 1,550 ended up enrolling. Of the 1,550, 146 of the were international students- ie, just under 10%. So, you are competing to be in the 10% of the 6%. The math is unforgiving.

So, off the top, before even getting to the specifics of you, the % that your dream of going to Yale is very, very, very small.

But: your info says you are a smart, motivated, achiever. Figure out why Yale is your ‘dream’, and what it is you really want from college. If you can afford to pay the fees, there are a lot of universities that do offer PR & Communications who would be happy to have you. If you want a university that has never heard of you to give you a free (or heavily discounted) college education you might have to choose one that you have never heard of.

*Note that the international student info on the Yale website is heavily distorted by graduate student numbers: undergrads make up about 20% of international students.

thank you so much. do u have any recommendations for me? like which schools should i try? i really like PR or sth related to arts like dancing and acting. thank you.

Figure out your budget and get some standardized test scores (SAT or ACT). This site has a college matching feature (under Schools, at the top of the page). Start there!
