Hello, I was reading about UCLA and everything about it grabbed my attention. I am out of state and was wondering if that hurt my chances of getting in or not. I'm still a junior so I hope to improve my stats throughout senior year, but here they are:

Thanks! :)

I’d say this is a high match to low reach right now for you. Therefore, make sure to write really strong essays. Extracurriculars are a bit weak but your ACT/gpa make up for it.

Out of state (OOS) admits usually have higher statistics, but I think you have good stats. I don’t think being OOS exactly hurts or helps you. Yes, UCLA has been admitting more OOS recently because OOS students have higher tuition fees than in-state students. But overall, I think the admit rate for in-state and OOS applicants hovers around 20%. Your GPA and ACT scores should be able to get you in if your essay is just as good.

A strong personal statement is necessary especially for out of state.
