I have both been rejected from Uchicago and Notre Dame and I am starting to worry…
I am international student from Tunisia.
SAT: 650CR - 700M- 770W
SAT II: 690 Math1 - 800 French
TOEFL: 111
Class rank: 9 out of 200
GPA: 16/17 out of 20 (ours are not graded out of 4)
Essays: I’d say 8 or 9 / 10
Recommendations: the teachers are really awesome so I’m hoping at least a 9
Extracurricular activities:
Debater
Painter
Organizer of parties for handicapped children
Volunteering at an orphanage (my Personal Statement was about that)
Exchange student in the US for a year
Science olympiad in the US
Math Club tutor
…
Drawbacks: I’m asking for a lot of fin aid (almost full tuition because we really cannot afford school expenses)
Do you think I have a chance?
I really want a liberal art education which is not available in my country.
Thank you in advance !
My stats are very similar and so is the drawback; I’m still waiting, too.
Why would you not have a chance? I understand your anxiety, but don’t fret! You’ll manage to do well!
I’m trying not to but considering that I’ve only gotten rejections so far… :-<
I hope we’ll both get in!
Are you an international student as well?
Yes, I received two rejections yesterday, too.
I was feeling quite worthless, but then I got into BU today, so hey, not everything is set in stone!
So do I!
And yes, I’m an international student as well; my country’s quite poor, so $65,000 is around five times more than my annual income.
Congratulations on your acceptance!
I know exactly what you’re saying when it comes to income… According to the US’s standards, both my parents earn less than the minimum american wage despite the fact that they are both engineers.
Fingers crossed!
Where else did you apply?
Thank you very much!
Haha, indeed. Well, there’s nothing we can do on that part… yet.
Fingers crossed!
Oh, I applied to quite a few universities. In addition to Rochester, I’m expecting a response from Lehigh, NYU, Richmond, Vanderbilt (quite a reach, but who knows) and Brown (that’s going to be a rejection - I have no SAT Subject Tests).
What about you?
I’ve applied to Bates, Rochester, Skidmore, Amherst and Vanderbilt (yes a very far away reach haha).
Already got rejected from Uchicago and ND
WE CAN DO IT! KEEP YOUR HOPES UP!
WHY AM I YELLING?!
Definitely, mah Tunisian co-international-applicant!
Hahaha! Where are you from?
There’s no way you know it, but Kosova - a small country in south-eastern Europe.
I just googled it; well now I know it!
Haha, the more you know!
I feel we’re going so off-topic that I’ll be getting a banhammer soon.
Anyway, are you applying to any other countries?
Haha it would probably be for the both of us!
I’m not sure; my mom is encouraging me to apply to a Canadian school but I still haven’t done so.
What about you?
I’m going to apply to Turkey since the financial aid issue is prevalent in US universities; y’know, so I have somewhere to go.
Besides, some of Turkey’s Medical Schools are great, so I may finish my Bachelor’s degree there and then move to the US for my Master’s degree.
What are the requirements in order to apply?
Quite a few of them ask for the SAT and TOEFL, so it’s pretty similar to the US application in terms of objective means.
Oh I see; maybe I’ll give it a shot as well.
Good luck!
