Could you guys chance me and give me suggestions on schools to consider?
Where is your home state? UIUC CS is not even a match for anyone as they are super competitive. Also, if you are not among the top 6% in your class and is a Texas resident, UT Austin cannot be a safety at all.
Calculate your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Post capped weighted and fully weighted UC GPA.
Agree with above poster ^^^^ unless you are Texas resident, none of these schools are safeties.
Homestate is CA. Uh, do you guys have any suggestions for schools then?
According to rogerhub:
weighted: 4.62
weighted and capped: 4.29
Thanks so much for your help.
You look competitive for the UC’s but UCLA/UCB are always tough admits. Apply widely and look at UCSC/UCR or some of the Cal states as safety schools. I would add USC, Santa Clara and maybe Harvey Mudd to your list.
Is there any reason to look at OOS? Can you afford $50-$60k per year? If so, you may add Purdue to the list. Note that even UIUC and UT are reaches, it does not mean you should not apply.
I was just looking at OOS for more options and I think I’m okay financially. Also do you think that I’m applying to enough schools? Some of my friends say they’re like applying to 16+ schools.
Your listed “safeties” and “matches” are all reaches for CS, except maybe UCI as a high match. (Some, like UCSD, UIUC, and Washington may admit you but not in CS; if you enroll as undeclared, getting into CS later will be highly competitive.)
Add some low match or safety schools like UCSC, UCR, UCM unless you have starting at community college as your safety plan.
So you don’t think I have a chance for UIUC CS? If it makes any difference I was thinking of Mathematics and CS and not engineering.
At UIUC, any CS, whatever/CS, or CS+X major should be considered a reach, even if general admission to the school is not a reach.
You should consider Texas CS, Washington CSE, UCB EECS, UCLA CSE, UCSD CSE to be reaches for the major.
