CS/Engineering Schools (UCs and UT)

Schools I’m looking at:
UC Santa Barbara
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
Uni. of Texas

Chinese boy attending California highschool
Incoming Senior schedule: AP Lit, AP Comp Sci, AP Physics, AP Calc AB, Health

Unweighted GPA: 3.76
UC GPA: 4.13
SAT: 2000
SAT2: (none yet, I’m studying to take math 2 and maybe chem)
APs scores:
Stats: 3
Chem: 3
Lang: 4

EC:
VP for 2 clubs
Secretary for Anime club
Volunteer at elementary school
(nothing great or relating to my intended major)

Looking at my own stats, I know it’s not too impressed, especially for the engineering departments of these schools. I probably won’t be taking my SATs again or the ACT. I’m trying to study for Subject tests (math 2 and chem), which are recommended for the engineering departments for UCs.

Chance me!
Thanks

UC GPA a bit low for the all the UC’s on your list, Averages are a 4.0+. SAT is on target but since Engineering programs are so competitive, it would help to bump up your score a bit. UCI/UCSB and UCSD will be tough admits. I suggest you look at UCSC and UCR as good target schools.

Good Luck.

Sorry, sorry! I messed up the UC GPA. It is actually 4.13

That does change things. UCI/UCSB are good contenders. UCSD will be tougher, but you do have a chance with your EC’s and some amazing essays. Good Luck.

You probably want to add UCSC, UCR, and UCM.

Class rank is used instead of GPA at Texas public universities. UT Austin should be considered a reach for all applicants who are not in the (automatic admission) top 7% of Texas high schools.

UT austin is really hard for out of state students. I would say its a reach for you. UCSB/UCI are matches. UCSD is a low reach.

@ucbalumnus

UCSC and UCM doesn’t have a good computer science/engineering program as far as I know. For a safety school, I was thinking Cal Poly Pomona. It’s better for my intended major than the lower tier UCs right?
