life summary:

lived in america my entire life. father passed away early on, so i grew up with just my mother and brother. in my 9th grade year we moved schools halfway through the year. in 10th grade we moved yet again halfway through the year. i have been to three different high-schools in my first two years.

this is why my grades in fresh/sopho. years are mediocre. its hard to adapt to different policies/teachers/classes and especially friends. in my junior year (the first year i stayed at just one school) i pulled off a 4.1, though.

my main concern is my test scores. i'm retaking the sat in october, and contemplating whether or not to take the sat ii's again, and if i have enough time to before applications are due. (anyone?) to be honest, i didn't hear what the sat was until about a month before registration, so i panicked and signed up and winged it. my retake is inexcusable - i tried to self study, but obviously it didn't do too great. also my sat ii scores are abysmal... i'm really worried about those.

Retake subject tests first. Those need some improvement, otherwise pretty good shots at UCs. Wouldn’t recommend wasting money on ivies or caltech - it’s a lot of money, no offense.

You need to calculate your UC GPA. The formula is on the UC Pathways website. If it’s 3.8 or so, you have a chance at the mid tier UC’s (SB, I, D) and should easily be into SC, R and M with existing scores.

With 200 more SAT points you solidify your position at the mid tier UCs. I’d focus on doing that, the ivies and Caltech are enormous long shots and your effort would be best spent focusing on getting into a mid UC.

is ucsd considered a mid-tier uc? i’m pretty sure its top tier, just making sure. my dream is really ucla or ucsd, but looks like i’m stuck with uci/ucd

True, it’ll be tough to get into UCSD with that GPA and SAT. Look in the UCSD forum to find the point totals needed for admission last year and see how you stack up.
