Hook: I am a dancer/debater/journalist and I am a the best in the state for all three of those things, I love them dearly and I love everything I do because I am passionate about them.

Thank you in advance for giving your opinions, I am worried about my SAT/ACT/Subject tests and also my GPA. We go to an incredibly competitive, and highly ranked IB school (96% Diploma Rate last year - One of the highest in the world) and the AP scores may be lacking due to the fact that our focus is not on AP at all, but on IB instead.
Thanks for your time.

Your SAT score is probably too low. When you write “national debate tournament” do you mean the national debate tournament or just some random national circuit tournament? Quarterfinalist at NFL nationals >>>> Quarterfinalist at random tournament.

No, Quarterfinals at a National tournament, with TOC bids… Lol. And yeah  I figured SAT is going to weigh me down. That’s why I’m taking the ACT in 11 days :)

Forgot to mention, weighted GPA is a 6.5+ on a 4.0 scale. Bumppp

Your stats are very impressive, but since when is it possible to have a 6.5 GPA?
Unless there’s something magical about the IB program I’m not aware of…

^ agreed moogileboo.

mind clearing that up forever33?

Hi guys! I can clear it up!
For unweighted our district uses the normal, 4.0 scale.
For weighted, they take our unweighted (3.7 for example) and add the weight to it. For honors courses, if you receive A/B/C for the semester, you earn 0.04 on your GPA. For AP courses, if you PASS the AP exam, you receive 0.08 per semester. If you do not pass your AP exam, you receive honors credit. My 6.5 is before Senior year has started so I expect it to be at least a 7.0 before we graduate. I have also taken online classes to boost it (at our school it is the norm to take extra courses that interest you). Do you think I should bother doing SCEA to Yale? Idk how my GPA/SAT would go… I take the ACT in 9 days!

Still a little blurry on that weird GPA system…, but never-mind that. As for applying SCEA…, from what I have heard, SCEA does have higher admission rates, and though those numbers might be inflated by recruited athletes and such, it does show that Yale was your first choice, especially since Harvard and Princeton have got EA as well now, and that might very well be helpful. But if you think your GPA is going to go up…, why go SCEA? I guess you should stick to RD then. But I am no expert, you should probably also see others’ input on this! :P

Thanks, I am so confused right now! I don’t know what to do :frowning: I am in LOVE with Yale, but then again - if it takes me waiting for RD to get in because I wait for my GPA to go up and for higher test scores… I don’t mind waiting.

Anyone else? :)

Well I would say that you stand a decent chance, but that’s what I would write below 90% of the ‘Chance me-threads’. Achieve a 2250+ score on your Sat’s, get your Gpa up a little and you should be fine. Adding to that you will have to write killer-essays, try to focus on what makes you unique: your passion for being a debater (could be a start, connect that with International Security)

Good luck to you!

P.S. I would be really thankful if you could chance me too

Thanks! Yeah my test scores are definitely going to go up. It’s senior year so now I have like 42384238 other things to do for my diploma program and because I lead all my extracurriculars, but I am going to MAKE SURE I make time for the ACT/SATII’s since everyone is saying it should be higher, even though I fall into the range for Yale as of now…(: So hopefully it all works out! Good luck to you too!
