Thanks for everyone's help and I'd appreciate honest answers.

Your SAT scores are all in the middle fifty percent which is a good thing, and your ACT is also in the average range.

5 isn’t necessarily too few APs but AP Chem/Bio/Calc probably would have carried more weight in terms of showing balance between humanities and sciences.

I would say W&L puts a lot of value on balanced students, you have a lot of good leadership experience but your electives all seem fairly similar. There is nothing wrong with having strong interests, in your case it would seem to be politics, and pursuing them but a sport or artistic endeavor would probably have counted for a lot.

Your a fairly strong student but your going to want to get that gpa up this year. I’m guessing at least 2 or 3 of your ap classes are this year, it would be a good time to show you can make a’s in hard classes and hopefully put yourself around a 4.3 minimally. Your unweighted gpa is probably not too much of a liability but I’d caution you that a 4.0 weighted gpa isn’t going to be a selling point at all.

ED is a big help here but obviously its binding so i wouldn’t apply early without serious thought. Either way I’d say your a reach applicant, which isn’t to be mean, I just don’t see anything on you resume that stands out to me, at the same time I don’t see anything that would discount you from being accepted. I’d keep in mind the acceptance rate is only 19%, it takes a lot for W&L to not be a reach school.

We are almost identical!

Yes, you both have similar records, about mid-pack for Washington & Lee applicants. Your AP’s are pretty good, but several are softer ones: government, psych, etc. Grades are good. Scores are ok for this level school, but not great.

Here are some things which help applicants beyond grade and score transcripts:

if you are a minority,
if you attend public rather than private school,
if you are applying Early Decision,
if you are first generation college,
if you are Pell Grant eligible,
if you were born outside the United States,
if you happen to have dual citizenship,
if you have lived abroad for any extended period of time
and, at Washington & Lee, if you are Jewish.

I see coppijr is the last.

The preceding can help mid-pack applicants A LOT at almost any school because they are all trying to increase their diversity percentages. I know someone who recently got into Harvard with an A- average, a few AP’s at a quality high school and 2040 SAT’s with almost no other attributes other than being first generation college. They were not an athlete or any other prefered group which might have helped as well. Students above this one in the class, with a more balanced resume and transcript, were stunned. Today, diversity is measured by a number of things from the preceding list whether you think that is fair or not.

GPA weighted is 4.93
GPA unweighted is 3.91

I’m also a white girl from the suburbs.

What are my chances of being accepted and receiving the Johnson Scholarship?

I’m a member of the class of 2014, and you all have records that are far superior to mine when I applied. However, W&L is the kind of school that, at least in my experience, is more about the kind of person you are than your scores and the activities. I love it here and I can’t imagine being as happy anywhere else, but it is a very specific place with a very specific culture. You’ve all probably already done this, but I would advise all of you applicants to visit or at least read about the W&L atmosphere and really think about whether or not it suits you before you get really set on it.

wlu2015, thanks for the info! one thing with my school, that i guess is gonna be different with the University is that GPAs cannot surpass a 4.0 so weighted it is as high as it’s getting. I have absolutely no idea what it would be on a 5.0 scale so it may not be an entirely accurate comparison. Either way, the rest of the stuff is awesome and I appreciate the help.
