chance me please!

This is my first try with this whole thing....anyway I'm thinking of applying to NYU as a reach school and I'm wondering what my chances are.

I want to major in Journalism or Communications, I know Journalism is in CAS and Communications is in Steinhardt, I'm not really sure which one to pick but does anyone know which school is easier to get into?

I go to a private all-girls Catholic school in upstate New York
Weighted GPA - 92.07
Taken 5 AP Courses between Junior and Senior Year
Consistently on Academic Honor Roll
SAT
Reading 650
Math 600
Writing 700
SAT II
US History 640
Literature 660
ACT Composite 29

Main ECs
- Varsity Sailing Team - 4 years, captain during senior year
- Volunteer Counselor at a camp for blind children
- Regular contributor to School Newspaper
- Member of Campus Ministry Board - multiple service projects
- Internship at summer resident camp
(I have a pretty full resume but these are the ones that stand out)

I think that my Common App essay is relatively strong as well as my letters of recommendation. NYU would be a reach school for me, but I want to make sure it's a reasonable choice. Please be honest, thanks!

I wouldn’t say there is a definitive difference in the “how easy it is” to get into each school. A better idea would be to go with your own preference. If you can’t decide based on major, check each schools’ Gen. Ed. demands and try to decide which one would benefit you more. CAS wants you to take two humanities, two social sciences, 2 natural sciences or a natural science and a math, and two semesters of a language. I’m not sure about Steinhardt, you should probably do some research.

Steinhardt is generally considered easier to get into based on academic standing. I.e. lower GPA/SAT scores, since most programs in Steinhardt rely on auditions, portfolios, etc. They aren’t overly concerned with your academics. Stern and CAS on the other hand are. The differences between Steinhardt and CAS are not large though. You still need to meet standard NYU academic expectations.

Your SAT scores is exactly the 25%. NYU’s SAT score range is 1950-2250.

You gave your weighted GPA, which is not what NYU is typically looking at. They’ll most likely be looking at your unweighted GPA. The average unweighted GPA is a 3.6.
