Chance me, please?!

Hi! I'm out-of-state at a nationally ranked and very competitive public high school
My UW GPA is 3.78, weighted it's 3.97
I took 5 AP's my junior year - AP US History, AP Spanish, AP Lang/Comp, AP Calc AB, AP Chem
I'm taking 7 as a senior - AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Physics B, AP Government, AP Micro & Macro Economics, AP European History, AP Lit/Comp

SAT - 2110, CR: 660 (too low?) M: 710 Wr: 740
ACT - 33 (32 on everything but science which was a 35)

As for EC's, I've been the vice president and the president of my school's Gay-Straight Alliance and I'm involved on several other planning boards for community wide equality activities, I've written articles for newsletters on the subject. I've played the cello for 8 years, and I ran cross country until I got injured after my sophomore year. I work as a small-scale editor for a home-improvement/construction consulting blog.

I'm interested in going into Engineering, but anything STEM is attractive - do I have a chance at engineering or should I apply as undecided?

I kind of bombed my junior year gradewise, I got 3 A's, a C and 2 B's one semester and 3 B's and 3 A's the second; I do have an explanation for the downward trade in grades (major family crisis) and I can show proof that my grades have stabilized. Other than my junior year I've recieved almost all A's, with three B's from 8th-10th grade.

Do I have a chance? UW is currently my top pick.

You look like a very strong applicant! I’m a Washington state resident and although it’s harder to apply as an out of state applicant, your scores and whatnot are significantly greater than most of the people who get in to UW. I think you have a really good chance =)

Your pretty much in, your ACT and SAT and above the UW average. Your GPA is on par with with the average applicant. Your EC’s and Workload are great. I would be surprised if you didn’t get in. Being OOS is a slight advantage as well with the whole economic issue. Just to reiterate, everything looks good, just apply, and you should practically be in.

yeah, you’re in

The only ‘weak’ portion of your application is your unweighted GPA, but as long as you explain the junior year grades, you’ll be fine. Write great essays and descriptions of your activities and you’re in.

Okay. Thank you guys! Haha this gives me significantly more hope, I was really worried about my GPA.

UW focuses more on writing than the GPA in my opinion since that’s the part where most applicants can showcase their individuality.
You are definitely in especially since they need the OOS tuition that OOS students pay.
