UDel is my top choice school :)
-I am applying under Apparel Design- this program has new admissions department and they seemed thrilled when I had called to ask about the major because not many people apply
-My GPA is a 3.72 weighted (no ranks)
-Maths and sciences haven't been great, I recieved 3 high C's during my freshman and sophmore years in those subjects (2 of the C's were honors classes) but I significantly improved during junior and senior year
-SAT is 1850 (680R/660W/510M)
-I've taken 13 AP or Honors courses (6 AP, 7 honors)
-I've gotten 4s on every AP exam I have taken, which I am using in place of subject tests
-My activities are mostly taken up by my 2 jobs 6 days a week- one of which pertains directly to my major- otherwise most of the slots were filled with BS clubs and volunteer work

Normally I wouldn't worry because I am towards the higher end of the GPA range, but my poor science and math grades in the past have me concerned along with my activities. I tried to circumvent this by having my APES teacher write my reccomendation letter since I recieved an A in the class and having my other recomendation written by my fashion/sewing teacher. I am also hoping that the program I am applying to will make admissions more likely to overlook those poor grades..
Do I have a decent shot?

For the major you are applying to IMHO your chances are good for acceptance (obviously no one can guarantee it). UD looks for GPA trends along with overall GPA so if your GPA has been improving your Jr. and Sr. years this should be in your favor. Make sure your first semester Sr. year HS grades are sent to UD as soon as they are available. UD primarily looks at SAT Math and Reading scores so your total here (1190) is still very competitive for admission. The rigor of your classes (AP and Honors courses) is also in your favor. UD tends to recalculate an applicant’s GPA looking at grades in major subject areas (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, History, and Language) so you might want to recalculate it with your grades in these subject areas (although for your major I would suspect they also would look at other HS courses you took in areas that would be more related to your major interest). You will be required to complete a math course at some level at UD, so be forewarned. Math courses at UD are not easy, so if you find yourself struggling in this (or any other area) please seek out help ASAP. UD does provide a wide array of options to help students succeed. You only have to seek them out. Best wishes to you.

LNRoc: My DD, who is a UD junior, has friends in fashion design and says that they have to take a lot of chemistry to learn about the fabrics. Just a heads up on that if chemistry isn’t your strong suit. But, as mwallenmd says, there is a lot of support at UD in all areas. Good luck with admissions!
