Chance me please.

GPA: 3.6 uw, 4.1 w
ACT: 30
Will take the SAT soon.

Clubs: Junior Classical League, Youth and Government, German (offices: treasurer and VP), Mock Trial, (will be inducted into NHS).
Volunteer work: I've been an active girl scout for 12 years and have volunteered at the equestrian center run by my council for 3 years. I take as many chances to volunteer elsewhere as I can. I will be teaching English in Ghana next summer.

Scare factor: I had a rough freshman year and got Cs both semesters in English I- gifted.

If any of this matters I go to a nationally accredited magnet school (top 25% in my class) , I am a black female, I live in the Deep South.

I am a junior and expect to raise my GPA by at least .1 points before graduation.

Posted the same thing in Columbia thread. Is Yale a realistic reach school for me?

See Yale Common Data Set: http://oir.yale.edu/sites/default/files/CDS2013_2014.pdf

Seventy-five percent of admitted Yale students have an ACT of 31 or higher. That means that 25% of admitted students have a 30 or below. So you have a chance, but as much of the applications process is subjective (Teacher recommendations, Guidance Counselor’s Secondary School Report, essays – none of which you posted) it’s impossible to know whether you have a realistic chance. You just have to send your applications out into the universe and hope for the best!

Reach

What were your grades like after freshman year? If you were able to get straight A’s after that string of C’s, then thats an upward trend they would consider nicely.

I would say that your standardized tests are the single most important thing you have control over now if you want to give yourself a high chance. Get a 2250+ or 34+ and it eases the doubt raised by your gpa.

Thanks for the input!
