I am a DACA (deferred action for childhood arrivals) student, and am therefore restricted by my immigration status. I have taken advantage of the resources in my area despite this setback. And although I am unable to join a significant amount of clubs in my school, work in several places, and even apply for most scholarships, I still want to get into Columbia. I was born in Guyana and moved here when I was 6. My family was (and is) rather poor, so that actually hurts my chances since Columbia is not need-blind if you are an "international student". Also, my school is poor too, even my neighborhood is poor. Poverty, gangs, violence, etc. are the norm in my area, and there are really not nearly as many opportunities where I live as where most people may live.

I will be applying in the Fall and really hope to get in. My passion is genuinely to help people, to bring a smile to someone's face, and I aim to use medicine as my launching board to achieve my dream of making people happy on a grand scale. Columbia is ultimately my dream school too.
