Chance me Please :)

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read this. As you can imagine I’m a nervous rising senior and just want to get an idea of where I stand. I go to an extremely competitive school and as a result my GPA isn’t great. I have taken all honors courses, and AP US history my junior year. Next year, I plan to take AP Lit, AP Stats, and AP World History.
As far as extracurriculars, I’ve been involved in marching band for my entire high school career, I’m a member of DECA (we placed 2nd in the state for our event and qualified for internationals in Orlando) and I’ve been an active member of my Boy Scout troop for nearly 6 years. I am currently working on my eagle scout project, and I hope to finish before college apps. Some of my friends and I from boy scouts also started a community service club and we now have branches in schools across the bay. My plans for this summer include: Young Scholars Program at Santa Clara University, and a marketing internship with Induz - a company that provides art education for underprivileged children.

Here are my stats:
GPA - 3.3 unweighted
SAT - 2270
PSAT - 229
(Will take SAT 2 Math in June, hopefully will do well as precalc is one of my strong areas)

My top choices are Santa Clara University, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego, Chapman, UIUC, Cal Poly SLO, Penn State, Boston University, University of British Columbia, and University of Washington.

Will apply to most schools with school of business as top choice, and school of arts and science as second choice.

SAT/ACT score? Which schools are you targeting?

sorry @Gumbymom accidently posted without listing schools. Check update! Thanks

Your SAT scores are really high and it’s good that your internship goes along with your interest in business. Getting your grades up a little bit (.2 or .3) would be great because colleges love to see improvement. Your choices are very realistic good luck.

@a20171 thank you :)) that’s encouraging to hear. Would love to hear more input!

For Cal poly SLO calculate your GPA using 9-11th grades and for the UC’s calculate your UC GPA using 10-11th grades: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Freshman Profile for SLO 2015 for Business:
Average CP GPA: 3.99
Average SAT (M+CR): 1330
Average ACT: 30

Average UC GPA/SAT/ACT for:
UCSB: 4.03/1925/29
UCSD: 4.13/2018/30
UCI: 4.05/1867/28

Average WGPA/SAT (M+CR)/ACT for:
USD: 3.88/1213/27.5
SCU: 3.76/1315/30
LMU: 3.67/1213/27
Chapman: 3.86/1204/27

Your GPA will hurt your chances at these schools but the privates and UC’s are just not about academics. UC’s will take into account your EC’s and essays while the privates will also accept letters of recommendations.

Based on your list for California schools, your best chances would be SCU/LMU and Chapman. The UC’s are very GPA focused along with SLO, so I would say these would be a Low Reach/Reach.

If you are in-state California, I would consider UCSC/UCR and CSUF/SDSU.

Good Luck.
