Is UCI good for CS? I heard its close to the silicon beach so that’s a great advantage but it is ranked around 20.
And can u chance me for other univeristies as well.
@lucifer1: I have never heard the Irvine/Orange County area referred to as “silicon beach”, but it may be apt, since there are many tech companies in the area. UCI is an excellent school for CS especially since they have a College dedicated to CS and Information systems. https://www.ics.uci.edu
I wouldn’t put too much stock into rankings. Ranked 20th out of thousands of schools is very good in my eyes.
I got into Purdue today so UCI and Umass are out of the equation as they are ranked lower than Purdue. My top choices are UCLA and UCSD due to the good rankings, weather and closeness to silicon beach. Have you heard of any international who got into UCLA with a 27 on ACT?
Where are you getting this “Silicon Beach” idea? I’ve never heard of that.
Silicon Valley is in the northern part of California, a good 6 hours north of UCI, UCLA and UCSD. Maybe ~500 miles north. Look at a map for San Jose, California and the Bay area of San Francisco.
You’re not getting into UCLA nor UCSD with a 27 ACT. You need a score of at least a 32 or better.
(Why would they have rolling admissions? They don’t need to. They get hundreds of thousands of applications. )
The UC’s are very competitive schools and are California public universities whose priority for admission is California residents. As an international candidate, you would have to have scores that are better-than-average California applicants and you would be full pay of $55K per year.
I asked my dad about Silicon Beach (as we live 40 min from that area), and apparently it is actually a pretty booming area in So-Cal where OP said it was (like Santa Monica area more than Irvine but still pretty close!).
Silicon beach refers to an area between Marina del Rey and Santa Monica. UCI does have a lot of tech companies around it because of the strength of the CS school. Technically, not part of silicon beach.
