Hi everybody,
With application season just around the corner, I figured that I should see where I stand. I want a chemical engineering degree but might pursue medicine later. Here are my stats:
M/Asian (Indian)/Junior
Texas resident, Houston public school
GPA: 3.88/4.0 (UW) and 5.35 (W)
Current Rank: 39/616 (6.2%)
SAT: 2290 (800 M/800 R/690 W) or 1600/1600 CR+M
PSAT: 1490/1520 (new scoring and all, but almost guaranteed National Merit)
AP Classes:
Sophomore:
World History-5
Calculus AB-5
Junior:
Physics 1
Physics 2
English Lang.
Biology
Calculus BC
Senior:
Chemistry
Physics C
English Lit.
Computer Science
(Still undecided on the rest, but expecting a total of 12-14 AP classes)
Recommendations:
None yet, but I am on VERY good terms with 4 or 5 of my teachers, so few worries in this department
Extracurricular Activities (just a few important ones):
Diversity Club President
HOSA Webmaster (Have won awards at regional level)
Varsity tennis
Science Bowl Captain
TAME Club President (Have won multiple awards at regional and state level)
Science UIL
Engineering Club
National Barbara James Service Award-Gold level
Volunteer counselor at camp for special needs individuals (over 250 hrs)
Local soup kitchen volunteering
CNA certified, have clinical shadowing experience
National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Rho Kappa (history honor society)
I’m going to try to get some laboratory research over the summer, but nothing is certain yet.
Now, for a list of my schools (Chemical engineering):
University of Texas Austin- I hope I’m good enough for Cockrell/McKetta + Honors, but my rank is not top 5%…hopefully SAT compensates
TAMU- More of a safety pick, I would get a full ride here if I get NM. Still a solid school and would def. consider #2
Princeton- Total reach school, but am I competitive?
Stanford- Another reach, but hey, this is just a fun thread right?
Rice- A bit more realistic, but still a long shot
Georgia Tech- Out of state, expensive af, but I want to apply to at least 5 schools
Baylor BS/MD- I do have some relevant clinical experience, so where would I stand for this?
I appreciate and welcome all advice and commentary. Thanks a lot for helping me out!
