Also, my cello teacher is faculty at Brown. The avg. gpa from my school that has gotten accepted there is about 3.55. He will do everythign he can to get me in early, but im skeptical. I would have to apply early there.

It's not just your GPA that's the biggest problem. I know some schools are super hard and they have to have low GPAs, whereas an easier school could dish out 4.0s more frequently, but when a GPA comes into question, the next thing an adcom will look at is the SAT score. Your scores are lackluster for Cornell/UPenn, and barely above average for UMich/USC. If your scores were higher, it could somewhat validate the difficulty of your school. Also, even by your own criteria regarding GPAs to get into Ivy Leagues, yours is below.

my school does not offer class rank.
there are 150 students in my class.
i can however tell you that i have taken the hardest availible courses every year.

to give a sense of the difficulty.
avg gpa of accepted students
columbia- 3.5
cornell- 3.5
georgetown- 3.64

I have a question, do strong APs (AP scholar w/ distinction), and SAT IIs along with amazing ec's and research more than make for for low SAT scores like say 760, 640, 710? Is there anyway to make up for low SAT scores?

You're correct, lots of 5s on APs and great SAT IIs (750+) along with amazing EC's and research will make up for lower SATs. However, attaining the first is probably much more difficult to do than just opening up some SAT books and raising that score a hundred points or so.

I would disagree. AP scores tend not to do more than serve as eye candy to the adcoms, especially private schools. They're concerned about your EC's more, and that is really what's going to distinguish you from the sea of people with the same numbers as you. If you do win national awards for APs, however, that MIGHT make a difference. At the same time, proceed with caution knowing that, again, at least a handful of people will have much the same.

What do you have recorded on your cello cd? Are we talking major concerti/solo pieces in the repertoire or hot cross buns? The music department here has quite a bit of clout and can help you greatly, though your GPA leaves much to be desired. Solid SATs.
