Chance Me Please!!

Very competitive California high school
Ranked in top 5%

GPA:
Freshmen yr: 4.0
Sophomore yr: 4.0 uw 4.4w
Junior yr: 3.8 uw 4.6 w

SAT Scores:

CR: 620
WR: 710
MA: 800

Question: The reason my CR score is so low is because I came here from Asia when I was 12 and I never read very much beyond my school assignments. Should I point this out on my application--that I am sort of a foreign student (even though I am an American citizen?)

EC:
Yearbook Staff
Newspaper Staff
Founded Political Club (Founder/President)
Founded Christian Ministry Club (Founder/President)
Varsity Softball

Summers: Went overseas to Latin America on Christian Ministry work.

Question: I founded two clubs but did not develop them very much. I know I don't have leadership roles in any other area except for the two clubs I founded. Will this look suspicious? I have heard that admissions officers look upon "founders" with growing skepticism these days, especially if there are no other leadership positions in established activities. It's common knowledge that a lot of kids "found" clubs just so they can put it on their college applications. I've heard that admissions officers may even look at people who "found" clubs in a negative light because they know it's a ploy in most cases.

Anyway, please chance me!! Thanks in advance!

Your ECs are shallow and your SAT is decent, but not outstanding. Have you taken any SAT IIs? You'll need three for Harvard.

My SAT IIs:

Math IIC: 760
Biology: 750
Chinese: 800

Do you really think my SATs are "decent?" My counselor says HYSP will not look at anything this low.

I know my ECs are "shallow" at first glance. My Christian ministry work is pretty extensive as I've traveled to a couple of countries to do outreach in villages. Our outreach isn't just conversion work--we teach English, math to children in the villages, help other organizations build houses etc. It's not one of these summer camp deals where you pay gazillions to help build toilets, so you can pad your resume.

Thanks for your quick response!
