Essay: I wrote about a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke and how it has inspired me and influenced my life. Should be very good.

with your stats...i'd say about 17%..

no seriously...no one here can tell what your chances are, so go ahead and apply. you have nothing to lose

I love Rainer Maria Rilke so much! What poem?

Archaic Torso of Apollo, the Stephen Mitchell translation. I actually did my senior project on his poetry as well, so it was difficult for me to cut what I had to say to a reasonable amount =p

Oh that's fantastic. I wrote about his "everything is lunar" poem from "Uncollected Poems" as one of my supplemental essays for another school.

Awesome =) Have you ever seen this? Cosima Underwater: Da Count: Rilke

Play the audio file, it's wonderful and I want those CDs now. Is that the translation you were working from? Have you looked at the German originals? I wish my school taught German.

Oh I've totally been to that site before! Wow, I hope we both get in just so we can talk about Rilke.

Ditto. =) What other poets/authors do you like?

For poets I really like James Tate, TS Eliot, Michael Ondaatje, Louise Gluck, and Aesop Rock right now, and for authors I'm currently into Thomas Pynchon, Margaret Atwood, Alan Moore, David Sedaris, and Kurt Vonnegut Jr. What about you?

I love Poe for both fiction and poetry. I've only read Oryx and Crake by Atwood, though I enjoyed it and I'll definitely be reading more of her soon.

John Crowley, Neil Gaiman, Mark Z. Danielewski, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Aldous Huxley are all writers that I enjoy.
