>:) chance me please (:<

u are strong but there others also..see how u can make the difference:P

starburst1191: wow thanks for the advice!! that was helpful, i will think about who i'll ask to do my recs :]

and thanks to the other ppl who commented. yeahh i know there will be lots of ppl applying >.<

You seem like a pretty great match for Yale! Keep up the academic excellence throughout junior year and senior year, get a few good recs, and you'll be a shoo-in.

^lol i doubt i'll be a shoo in but good grades and scores wouldn't hurt =P

this is coming from an asian... you are sooo asian
not like a fob asian. but like the typical 2nd gen

how many chance threads did you post?

Your stat's are amazing! I know this is a tread for Yale, but htere was a guy from my area who got into Harvard and Yale both, I believe and his stat's weren't as good as yours. I hope you get in!

(As you probably know) we both went to the same school and that as your elder by two years, I can say, without a doubt, that your stats are much more impressive than mine as a high school senior applying to colleges, from grades to SAT scores to extracurriculars to sports. I mean, WOW! You have it all! Science, math, tennis, clubs, amazing scores, everything! You have accomplished so much more already than I had when I was standing in your shoes as a nervous junior. I was terribly scared that my stats sucked. And yet I still somehow luckboxed my way into Princeton. That's why I really think that you have nothing to worry about. You are definitely among the cream of the crop, and as long as you keep up the good work for this year and the first half of next semester, you should be well on your way to success.

hi .

Narcissa, your stats are great, and pretty similar to mine I think, so hopefully your chances are pretty good! I have found that PSAT is not the best indicator of SAT I scores though, so make sure you prepare for the SAT.

The less self-explanatory thing with these applications is with EC's and awards, and I'm going to be tough because I can with your stats. You certainly have a pretty incredible volume of things, and your captaincy of the girls tennis team is something that sticks out. But some of it looks unrealistic... can you really devote 20 hours a week to your extracurricular math/science activities? That's three hours a day... on top of five APs, piano, five other clubs, and tennis (not to mention posting here 1700 times in about three months). That's definitely eyebrow-raising, even if it is somehow true and you just get four hours of sleep daily/have an unreal work ethic to compensate. Your EC's don't need to conjure an identity necessarily, but they need to show passion for your involvement with them (not just spreading yourself around), and I have to believe that they need to fit together realistically. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's impossible to operate on a daily basis while putting the work and care into and garnering the recognition for this massive volume of activities that you're apparently invested in.

I don't mean this to be a personal attack! I really want to understand how you go about things. Maybe you're just extraterrestrial, haha.

innervisions thought process is likely what will be going on in an admissions guy's head.

Two things:

1) How can you have a .8 difference in your weighted/unwieghted averages if your school doesn't weight AP classes? I'm guessing if you have a 4.7 that means your school weights classes (but not AP?) so that an A equals 5 out of 4. Thats obscene, that would be like giving a kid with a 90 a 112.5 or a kid with a 100 a 125.

2) It's not that impressive that your school has high averages on the AP tests, considering you even admit that they only allow kids to take the class that they know will do well. At my school any kid can take a course at any difficulty level (we do IB and only have about 2-4 AP classes) and if it turns out to be too much, they can level out at any point during the year with no adverse effect.

(This is not to knock you at all- you sound like an excellent applicant!)

lol, they don't weigh classes only FRESHMAN year. sorry for not making that clear.

and they only allow kids to take the class that they know will do well, but that's still like 80 people per course if there is enough interest...out of ~450-500 (not sure of exact numbers) ppl, 80 in AP bio, or AP chem, is a lot...or am i wrong..

Care to share how you manage this? Do you eat or sleep?

I smell bull ****

*Captain of Varsity Girl's Tennis - 10 11 12 (30 hours a week for about 3 months)
President of origami club - 10 11 12 (like 1 hour a week rounded up for year minus tennis season)
president of cancer awareness club - 11 12 (like 2 hours a week for a year minus tennis season)
president of this volunteering club - 11 12 (like 1 hour a week for a year minus tennis season)
president of future doctors club - 9 10 11 12 (like 1 hour a week for a year minus tennis season)
VP of animal protection club - 9 10 11 12 (like 2 hours a week for a year minus tennis season)
captain of math team - 9 10 11 12 (10 hours a week if you count self studying)
captain of science olympiad - 10 11 12 (like 10 hours a week for about 1/2 year >_<)
*

All that is ridiculous and obviously padding.

57 hours a week?! Holy crap!
Are you a fake?!?!?! Sorry buy i had to ask :O

^no.

the thing is, my ECs are ridiculously spread out.

First comes tennis season, which I spend about 5 hours/day per week on. And I do nothing else.

Then the rest of the year I do my other clubs.

And for math, I study a lot over the summer, and if you count self-studying as part of the club, then the 10/week for about the whole year minus tennis season is accurate.

Science olympiad we stay after school for quite a long time, like 4-5 hours, for a few weeks before each competition.

and i made one club that I try to do a lot in..

ANd my other clubs don't do anything realy....I'm wondering if i should even put them on my application because they're pretty pointless. Hey u can't blame me for being like the only member because my senior friends are officers and they make me go to them :/ I just put them on here to see if anyone can give me advice as to what to do...

plus i spend like no time with school >_<

narcissa, i totally understand your hectic schedule. im in the same boat without the countless clubs lol. i think i would focus on the main ones in your application so you have more focus and you'll show more depth, not breadth.
but i think you have a great chance! just keep doing what you love and it will all pay off in the end =)
