…What do you think my chances are??

My D. applied early decision last fall (2007) and did not get in. They were not taking any females with anything lower than a 3.6, or an 1860 (math and language), but you have a unique resume. I would do regular decision (cheaper) and hope for the best. I would also retake your SAT's in October to try to get your scores higher, or try the ACT. Good luck.

thanks so much! yeah, i completely suck at standardized tests, and I'm hoping to bring my GPA up to a 3.7 or 3.8 by the end of first semester because I'm taking like 5 AP classes.

I'm just so frustrated because I even have a private tutor for math and I took the Princeton Review course which cost over a $1000, and I still got crappy SAT scores, and I'm no better at the ACT's and it just drives me absolutely crazy!

but NYU is definitely my reach school! thanks for the input!

OK, I'm stupid, but how is regular decision cheaper than Early Decision?

And how do you get 1850 on "Math and Language" when it is only possible to get a total of 1600 on those two sections? Further, how did you obtain information that nobody was accepted below a 3.6 GPA and an 1860 SAT? There are no cut offs and I am sure students are accepted with stats below what you stated because the range of stats for admitted students is published. Further, GPA alone is not enough information because rigor of courseload would matter....example, a 3.5 GPA with 8 AP classes is not like a 3.5 with the easiest track classes.

PS, one of my clients was admitted ED to Tisch last year with 1850 (that is CR/M/W combined). So much for the "cut off" you mention (which I know doesn't exist).

Just wanted to clarify to any applicants this upcoming year that, contrary to what bktheater states, my D was accepted last fall ED with a GPA that was well below 3.6. Overall her test scores were not really 'out of this world' either (below 1850), and so I am not quite sure where the 3.6 and 1860 came from, but I doubt she was the "one exception".

Of course it goes without saying that the higher your SAT or ACT and GPA scores, the better positioned you will be (assuming you will have a good audition where applicable), but don't think "you should not even bother applying" :).

Back to the original poster, I would recommend to retake your SAT and try to increase your math score.

Let's also remember that there is an audition involved. :)
