Jointhesith,

I've never responded to a chance thread before, but I thought your ec's and community service were outstanding, and since my son is a poli sci major (and very happy at Rice),
I wanted to add a few words. Four years as captain of the Speech and Debate team
is wonderful -- a strong example of leadership. I assume you'll be as specific as possible
about how you performed at Nationals -- congrats! Have you written anything about the election and tried to get it published as an op ed piece? Did you make any predictions
that were noted on a blog, etc.? Any published political think pieces would be quite impressive to send on. What about political science interests you -- share this in your essays. (And please drop the word "Government" after Political Science.)

I'm not going to try to chance you -- just show Rice your passion for political science and Psych. Obviously, you shine in debates, and that could inspire some interesting essays ... and continue to do the wonderful, compassionate things you do! Good luck to you!

thank you ! well i haven't published anything, but there was an article done about me in the newspaper. haha sorry, i've seen schools put political science / government. but I'll edit that.

and thanks for the advice !

I'd make sure that Rice knows about the article. Definitely sounds like you have some
good material for your essays and to share during your interview. The poli sci dept
at Rice is excellent and there's a non-partisan think tank on campus.
