made my own thread concerning my entire situation. And yea in short, freshman-senior year all honors classes. (technically not taking a math class senior year, but I took Calc at UCSD this summer so I’d hope that counts as an “advanced” class.

NIklask, I’m sure you’ll be fine and get in. If not you can get into the college of letters and science with no hassle.

I think that you are in:

high SAT scores
rigorous schedule - your APs would bump your GPA up
Ecs are ok though
but the rest are good enough to get you in
Good luck :)

thx for chancing me

any others?! =)

Your GPA isn’t that great, and neither are your SAT scores. As a potential engineering major, they’ll be looking for good performance particularly in Math and Science areas. Being a math tutor is good, but I’m not sure how much sway that will have. I’d GUESS 30/70. Apply anyways - I got into MechEng with a C in Math in my Junior year, although this was somewhat offset by me doing well in Chem/Physics/SAT Math II.

If you want to do engineering, apply for an engineering major. Transferring into the CoE is typically hellishly difficult, it is much easier to get out than it is to get in.

^To transfer in, isn’t it like around a 3.0 GPA?

No. Switching to an engineering major if very difficult unless you’re already in the College of Engineering. It is my understanding that your GPA better be close to a 4.0 to even have a chance.

Oh wow… at Berkeley its like around a 3.0. Probably different in every college.

Either way, I might just apply to Electrical Engineering as my 1st choice and undecided as my alternate. Like you said, its always easier to get out if I don’t like it.

Hey, i got into ucsb EE lasy year, i had a 3.9, 2140, 10 ap’s, got a 5 on both calc bc and ab, and a 800 on math level II, and my professor said that I pretty much barely got in. My point being, it’s all about gpa and sat when it comes to engineering, your gpa does hurt you, most engineering kids have around a 4.1/4.2, i don’t mean to be a downer, but i’d say its 30/70 for you regarding engineering. If you REALLY want engineering, i would advise to either take the CC route, or apply for a much easier major(global studies, humanties, etc.) and really commit yourself to doing well and transfer to engineering after 2 years(it’s true though, its a damn rigorous to transfer to the college of engineering)

If I want to transfer, wouldn’t it be better to just go undecided, instead of picking some unrelated major?

I’m looking to apply for Materials Engineering, is it as difficult as the guy with the 4.0 above needed for Electrical Engineering?

Regardless if you apply as undeclared, global studies, buis/econ, english…etc. it’s just as hard to transfer to the engineering college. I don’t know the specifics on how to actually transfer but I do know that your GPA must at least be above a 3.5 and you have to take very challenging engineering courses.
