80% of BC students were in the top 10% of their high school classes and 96% in the top quarter. Your 3.1 is most certainly outside the top 10% and most likely outside the top quartile. Your CR and Writing SATs are below the 25th%-tile and your overall SAT is skewed by a very high Math score.

This combination of very low stats is very difficult if not impossible to overcome. The rigor of the BC coursework, particularly the reading and writing requirements of virtually all of the classes make you a very risky admit.

Your ECs/Awards seem to reflect an ability in music and you some amount of leadership. Regrettably I don’t find them compelling enough to overcome your low stats.

My personal belief is that ECs, Recommendations and Essays are only of value for tie-breaking among strong clients. That’s not the case here.

My personal opinion is admittance to BC is very, very unlikely.

Dear Sirgluttony : Reading your profile shows that you are involved with the New England Conservatory which is based in the Boston area. Massachusetts has the highest and potentially most competitive application pool into Boston College based on sheer numbers. Your GPA (3.1/B) is short of the mark particularly given that the college will have its choice of Top 10% students from the Massachusetts area. Your preference for CSOM (which will need to be declared with your application) makes for another small hurdle to be climbed - an anthill compared to the Everest that your GPA presents.

Your SAT scores are in the third quartile, but the critical reading score is a problem. Regardless of whether Boston College would accept you as a student, plan on a senior year retake of the SAT and try the ACT to potentially bring more balance to your standardized testing scores.

Clearly, music is a priority for you. That said, there is not much else here. No honor societies or awards to note outside of music, very limited school clubs (some positions held being noted), and no sports involvement. Your High School profile does not exude school spirit and involvement which is a compounding factor against you for a school like Boston College.

In preparing this review, I read through vinceh’s view in the previous posting and noted some similar themes. Although myopic on my part, I am four paragraphs into this chance-me and still come back to the fact that your application will not make it past the first review round based on your current GPA.

A strong word of advice here to start considering some softer alternatives in addition to your ultimate stretch goals. You need to establish an application list which caters for your current GPA/critical reading abilities based on what is presented here. Good luck.
