You should definitely apply, although you should definitely work hard on writing an excellent applications. UMass would probably be a reach for you, since their average HS GPA is around 3.6 and you haven’t taken too many advanced classes in high school. However your SAT score puts you around the UMass average and the competitive HS won’t hurt (although in this case, it probably won’t helpt too much either). Remember though that you should still definitely be applying and don’t think of the average as a minimum - 50% of successful UMass applicants are below the average. Your EC’s are above average also and the adcoms know that you worked through HS (this will be particularly useful if you helped support your family through difficult finances).

You have a lot of good EC’s and your sports, chorus, music, leadership, work and service are meaningful but they are unlikely to outweigh your below average class rank and grades. In case you don’t get in, try UMass Lowell, UMass Dartmouth, UMass Boston and Massachusetts State Colleges and if you do well there, your college record will count more than your high school record and you might even get into Amherst as a transfer student (they take in a lot of transfers as well).
