Chance me, please! :)

my mom won't get off my back about university applications even though i'm a junior -____-
i have a few schools in mind but i wanted you guys to see if i actually have a shot at these schools (and please recommend some suitable ones too!)

i'm an east-asian (naturalized canadian citizen) attending school in the texas.
not a permanent resident, we're on a visa.

i haven't taken my sats yet but i am this summer
for practice tests i've been getting around 20XX~22XX each time
so i guess that can be a reference until i take it in the summer! sorry -___-

unweighted gpa: ~3.95/4
weighted gpa: 5.3something/6
i'm top 5%

ap courses:
world history (made 4 on the test last year)
psychology (this year)
english language (this year)
2d art and design (this year)

next year's ap courses
art history
english lit
economics
government
calculus (maybe?)
french

extracurriculars:
youth expanding services (community service)
interact (community service)
psychology club
english honour society -historian
french honour society
national honour society
chinese club
piano for 10 years (i lost a few certificates when i moved to the states though, so i don't know if i can show proof)
i'm also a part of a youth humanitarian organization outside of school, basically volunteering to help the needy in our community
this summer i am volunteering at the hospital (~75 hours?)

i'm not that good with math or science but english is probably my best subject and i find languages/social sciences interesting. so i'm thinking about majoring in international relations in college (my parents prefer that i major in int'l law though).

the schools i'm interested in are:
university of texas-austin (safety, auto acceptance to top 8%)
new york university
university of michigan
university of southern california (impossible)

what other schools have good programs for international relations/law that are around the same rank? ut is my parents' first choice (close to home) while it's my last choice because i'd really like to get out of texas.

oh and do colleges mind/think less of you if you only take math up to pre calculus?
my friend who got accepted to rice took science only up to chem (not ap) and math only up to precal and she assured me it was no big deal. but my other friends think it's the worst decision possible. i'd like to do another ap course (european history) instead of calculus because math is definitely not my forte and i'd end up making a b in it anyways.

chance? please and thank you .____.

It depends on the school, but the ones you’re aiming for are gonna want math past precalc. It’s hard to tell without SAT or ACT scores, but NYU and USC are gonna be reaches. if you get like 2150 on your SAT though you’ll be way more likely to get in. sorry those are the only schools i know about!!

thanks a lot!
i’m going to be taking either the may or june sat so i hope i can get around that score =___=
well, i’ll probably take calc bc so hopefully it won’t be too bad

your GPA(s) and ECs are pretty good. It’s impossible to chance you (let alone without your SATs). However, I agree with Chandlerbing92 in that you deffinately want to take calculus (preferably AP) and that if your SAT is about 2100+ you’ll be in good shape.

thanks, doberhound1! i was really concerned that my gpa (especially weighted) was too low -_____- yeah, i guess it would be difficult without my sat scores but i was worried about whether the schools i was aiming for are within reach.

question to anyone else who sees this:
the profile on nyu (from collegeboard) says:
32% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
37% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
18% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
12% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
1% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99
is this weighted or unweighted? @__@

you have a great chance at these schools! good luck :)
