3.85 GPA unweighted
Taking it in June for the first time, but so far I'm getting 32/33 on ACT practice tests. Hoping to get it to at least a 34.
My most rigorous classes:
AP Calculus AB, AP Chemistry, AP English Literature, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP Physics C Mechanics, AP Statistics
AP Self studies:
Environmental Science, Human Geography, Comparative Government
EC's:
Varsity Tennis (captain next year as jr.), Football one year, Honor Society, Math and Science Club, Founder/president of Chess Club, Eagle Scout, many hours of service
Great teacher recs.
Latin American ethnicity-from Utah
Could these stats get me into Vanderbilt, Dartmouth, or UPenn?
Thanks.

Do I have a good chance???

Somebody…?

Vanderbilt and Dartmouth are both within possibility, but you’ll definitely want at least a 34. Don’t forget to take SATII’s… Otherwise your extracurriculars and stuff are rather strong. What’s your Weighted and Class Rank? If strong, they’ll increase your chances, but mainly that ACT. UPenn you’ve got a chance with all that stuff I mentioned.

Chance me!

Thanks. I forgot to mention my SAT Subject Tests. I’m taking US History this June and next year as a Junior I plan on taking the Chemistry and Math Level 2 Subject tests. I think I’m currently around the top 10%, but I can’t be sure. My freshman year didn’t go so well (3.7), but I’m making it up so my class rank should improve as well. The classes at my school are so watered down though that many people have 4.0’s or very close to it. It’ll be close to 10%.

Oh and my school does not do weighted GPA’s.

Your ECs (as far as anyone can ever judge an EC) are only OK and seem to be the week part of your app. So, you should shoot for the best ACT score as possible. I saw that your not even a Junior yet so don’t panic, you have got plenty of time.

What other EC’s would you guys recommend? My school doesn’t have very many. We have clubs and sports, and I’m not the type of person to run for any class offices… I will most likely be an AP Scholar with Distinction by the end of my jr. year if that helps my application. I have got the chess club all set up with my academic advisor and I will be president for sure… I just don’t know what else I can do.

Start with the things you enjoy or are good at. If you like chess, enter some competitions. If you are good at tennis, work hard to be recruited. If your good at math or science, do some research and enter it into intel isef. if you like a specific career, try to find an internship. Basically, use what you like to do and expand it as far as possible, but don’t try to do everything, they like applicants to be more focused than completely well rounded. (oh, and remember always try and be a leader in whatever you do, it will only help you in life:)
