I am in AP Composition and have taken honors english courses.

If there are any suggestions you have or questions you want to ask feel free. I would really appreciate it if I could know where I stand and what I have to do to get into NYU. I plan to do early decision if I see that I have the potential to be accepted.

Thanks so much!

You should be able to get into NYU. I don’t know about Columbia, since I didn’t apply. Honestly, I didn’t think NYU was that hard to get into. I applied for Stern and got in. As for Columbia, if you have some kind of sport, you can get in. People from my school go there b/c of a sport. There was a guy at my school who really wanted to go there, but he didn’t get in so he’ll be going to Cal.

If it helps, I’ll post my stats so you don’t have to do some CC stalking.
GPA: 4.33w, 3.95uw
ACT: 33
Applied for: Stern School of Business
EC: Volunteer every weekend, been in 2-3 volunteer clubs w/leadership positions for 3-4 years, etc.
Senior load: AP Econ, AP Calc, AP Psych (taking all 4 AP tests)
AP Scores: Euro (4), Chem (4)

Any questions? PM me.

I think you definitely have all of the credentials to get into NYU, but what is important is to show how much you really want to go to the school through your application. A friend of mine applied to NYU and was at the top of her class and had extracurriculars but got wait-listed. Other students in my school were much lower in rank and didn’t take as many AP and honors classes but were interesting people and showed how much they really wanted to go to NYU through their applications. They got in. You seem to be doing everything right in school and outside of school, just make sure you show how interesting you are and that you would be a great fit for the school. Good luck next year on your college application process!

I completely agree with 2ndsemsenior2010! My best friend graduated at the top of our class (I was like #27 in the class), with a much more well-rounded extra-curricular list than I. She, however, got rejected from NYU, and I got in.

I really do think it has a lot to do with how interesting you are, like 2ndsemsenior2010 said. Through your essays and other application materials (I’m a film major, so I honestly have no idea about pre-med app requirements) bleed your heart. Show what interests you, and why and how badly you want to get in. You definitely have all the schtuff to get into both Columbia and NYU!

If you’re strapped for cash (even though with credentials like yours I don’t know how every scholarship committee wouldn’t be running after you!), I’d pick Columbia. I heard they give amazing financial aid. NYU, though, is rated worst fin. aid in the country.

If you feel in your heart, though, that NYU is for you, I say go for it! Reach for the stars! If you have any questions, feel free to message me from now until you apply.
