Columbia

I'm also applying to:
Pace University
St. John's University
Fordham University
Manhattan College
Marymount Manhattan College
CUNY Baruch College

Do i have good chances for these schools, most importantly NYU/Columbia?

Your standardized tests are way too low.

NYU: Maybe
Columbia: REJECT

Since you are a Mexican, your high scores in Spanish, which I assume is your native language, is accounted for.

for NYU you are either Reject or GSP (general studies program...kinda like Junior college, but if you keep like a 3.0, then you will make it into the original NYU school you applied 2 after 2 years.

ok forget columbia then, lol....im still aiming for NYU...i mean im applying early decision and i dont mind GSP

NYU doesn't place very much weight on test scores, so I think you have a good chance there.
Also, I can't believe someone did worse than I did on the AP US History exam. That makes me feel better about myself, thanks.

SATI:
Critical Reading 600
Math 580
Writing 560

SATII:
Spanish 760
U.S. History 680
Spanish w/ Listening 750
Biology E 520

SAT scores are much too low. and ***reak? If youre mexican, they EXPECT you to get 800 on all your spanish SAT II tests. and im not even joking.

COLUMBIA: BIG REJECT
NYU: emphasizes more on EC, but its still a HIGH reach

And btw, i found that AP USH exam very easy. finished WAY early and still got a 5 :) (not to brag)

I'm terrible at history, and ended up getting a 3. Like, seriously, TERRIBLE. I did get a 5 on AP Eng Lang, which balanced out the depression my US His score resulted in.

well at least im being honest here and not exaggerating my scores like some people here. but i know about 4 people who got into nyu for 07 and had about the same test scores as me. so we'll see...
plus i want to major in international business with a spanish minor, so i think they'll like that my best grades were in spanish? well thats my opinion?

but hey thanks alot for being honest.

You look good for NYU. If you could bring up your SAT scores that would be great, but that school seriously isn't as selective as many people play it out to be, especially with someone with a high GPA and quality ECs.

Poop, you really need to stop being so harsh on people. Some of the things you're saying are fairly unfounded (Mexicans need 800?) and its hard to see that you're putting any consideration into what you say.

Look at his GPA, it's insane! Testing is very low, but URM helps. . .I'd say good chance at NYU but no for Columbia because of testing.

Peppers:

My brother is korean and he took korean SAT II's and got a 780. his guidance counselor said that he shouldnt have taken it unless he was ABSOLUTELY positive tht he was going to get an 800. And why is my brother's guidance counselor believable? she WAS part of the admissions committee at harvard before she became counselor at my brother's private school. She said same applies for hispanics/mexicans taking Spanish SAT II, French taking French SAT II, Chinese taking Chinese SAT II...etc

^ thats why i opted NOT to take SAT II Korean, although practice test scores clearly show that without the insanely horrible curve, i could get 750

What you're saying is absolutely the same thing that a counselor told me, however, they went a step further and said that the SAT II language of ethnicity would be worthless regardless of score. What I'm saying is that the OP's inability to get a full score in their native language is NOT going to kill his chances for NYU. The OP has a GPA many would envy, and EC's that are good enough. He stands little/no chance for HYPSM because of that SAT II (then again, he does have the URM card), but what you were implying was that NYU would be a reach because of that score, which is untrue considering his other accomplishments.

thanks peppers, i have confidence now. what ive notcied is that the people on this site critique people ONLY on SAT/ACT scores....

what can i say im a bad test taker and i get nervous when taking the sat/act.
btw i checked with my counselor, im ranked 9th in my class ;) and yeah i wasnt too big on columbia anyway im in LOVE with NYU...btw i have way more accomplishments/EC's i didnt put on, i just wrote my essay on how i traveled to spain and other spanish speaking countries, and that i went to mexico this summer to teach students english...boo yahh ill come back on december to tell ya'll if i got in ;)

couple more opinions?

i didnt read any of the other posts except the first one

SAT's and ACT's are way low forget columbia

NYU you MIGHT get a chance to get in
you have a lot of extra curricular which will help

i think you can offer details of your extenuating circumstances? you seem pretty bright; i don't see why an ivy league school wouldn't offer you some form of consideration, beyond your standardized scores.

adcom from harvard to a private school counselor?
